That's good then. I'm torn about work myself right now. Didn't get the promotion I wanted (and was told was coming by my now former boss who got demoted himself) and the new management ladder over me right now means I'm going to be starting back at square one with letting people know where I want to be in the company. The wife and I are very tempted to finally embark on our distillery plan, but it's scary as we too are comfortable at the moment.

I never saw your comment Tallen, sorry for the late reply. It certainly is scary. I'm especially worried with the markets and the yield curve about to become inverted, which is a big indicator for upcoming recession. Not including the Cheeto in Chief slapping tariffs on everything.

I ended up coming back to Phoenix to interview with the local manager here, I'd be starting out at the very bottom if I stayed with the company. I did load up my truck with stuff and put it in storage. After I found out I'm still needed in Albuquerque for a few more months in my current position... And yesterday found out my immediate boss is quitting, because he too got screwed over by our boss (the one who warranted my demotion).

I did talk to my parents friend who works for the local utility company, no openings right now but told me to keep checking. I did look at the local union, and they require a written aptitude test that includes algebra. Thankfully I found an awesome website called www.KhanAcademy.org to help me re-learn basic algebra. Math was never my strong suit, I was more of a History and English guy back in HS haha. While waiting for the opening, I applied at Shamrock Food's, and Nabisco.

Sorry for the rambling, its been a weird couple of weeks.

I also found another cool website, to help with job searching. www.jobscan.co

You enter your resume' and the full job description. It will compare the two and give you suggestions on what words you're missing, to help your resume' get through their automated filters.

That was my main attraction in the beginning.

Khan Academy is great. Another tool that may be helpful is finding Accuplacer practice exams. I had to take a placement test a few years ago after going without any math for a while and going through those practice exams helped a ton. I knew I'd be taking an Accuplacer, but I bet most math placement exams are pretty similar.

We just spent a week driving around Colorado. It's a very pretty place. Also, legal recreational cannabis is both bizarre and enjoyable.

Had a work thing in Boulder for a few days so we mostly stayed there, then rented a car and visited family in Conifer and Manitou Springs, explored some of Colorado Springs, then went up to Breckenridge, Vail, Winter Park, and Avon.

Applied for a job that's in Maryland and it didn't even occur to me until I got an interview request that if I move I won't be able to legally buy/use cannabis... Yikes

Eh, Medical just blew up here, so it won't be long. Mind you, if you have a MM card, you're prohibited from possessing a firearm in the state.

Where in MD is the job? Also, it's legal in DC, so you just cross the border when you wanna get wasted.

As for me, my basement flooded.... again.... Happened 2 years ago when we got 7 inches of rain in 4 hours. This time around we got 9 inches in the same time frame. However, this time, we were able to pinpoint the issues on the exterior of the house and get everything buttoned up after the fact. We had torrential rains the rest of the week as well and the house stayed dry after that. We were on vacation when it happened an only knew about it because I asked my neighbor to check when I saw that we were having heavy rains from a Facebook post. Wasted two days of vacation driving back, cleaning up, and then driving back down to Massanutten to finish out the rest of the week. Now I'm going to have the joy of digging trenches and laying French drains around the back patio to prevent any chance of water infiltration in the future since we're getting ready to re-do the basement family room and turn it into something that the wife and son actually want to visit and hang out in. Got the jukebox down there along with all my old consoles, VCR, CDs, DVDs, etc. Going to be putting the stereo system down there as well at some point. Ripping out the kitchenette and putting in a wet bar, etc.

Oh, and Scotchy FB messaged me all the way from Tashkent to ID an airplane clock for him so he could earn some serious Mom-In-Law points.

I just won a drawing for a Denali park road lottery pass.  During the summer, private vehicles are only allowed to drive 15 miles into the park.  If you want to go further you have to pay for a bus ride.  The park service does a lottery every year with 1,600 passes available for specified days over a 4-day period, after the busses stop running for the season.  The pass lets you drive yourself an additional 80ish miles into the park.  I'm hyped.

I just got back from a vacation in Atlantic City. It is abseloutely fascinating that so many top dollar casinos can be abandoned, and so much floor space can be unused on those that are open. Had a great time though.

Then again, I live in a section of PA that is dotted with abandoned resorts so I should be used to it.

I also want to get out of construction. I work in construction management and I never realized how much I hate my job

When it rains it pours. Got walloped with a huge heating oil delivery bill (was hoping they'd hold off on delivery until October like usual, but nooooo.) and on top of that I've got to pay off the emergency cleanup supplies from the basement flood. Then today, I go downstairs to check on my acid neutralizer setup to see if it's in need of more calcite and magnesium oxide to prevent my very acidic well water from eating up my domestic supply lines. Come to find out that the tank for neutralization is leaking rather profusely. $225 later, I've got a new tank, new distribution tube, and media funnel. Not sure how long it'll take to get here, but hope it's soon! Good news is, I don't have to shell out for a new bypass and timer valve as both of those are in good shape. Bad news is, I now have to spend another $200 on gravel bedding, calcite, and magnesium oxide filter media.... ugh....

Yep, total give and take. We really got lucky all said and done. Bought at the very bottom of the market. Our lender is sending us letters practically every week saying "So, uh, you know you have like..... WAAAAAY more equity than your loan balance sheet says right?" because the market shot back up again in the DC area. We bought at $295k. Current real comps are running $375k on the low end. With this month's payment, we're below the quarter of a million mark on principal owed. Not bad having only lived here for just under 6 years and only putting 2.5% down for a FHA. We were throwing over $500/mo at principal from the very first payment. That's unheard of around here.

Also, It's nice to know that whatever I put into the house, I get back out for longer than the life of an average lease. Our new washer, new kitchen appliances, new flooring, new window treatments, all that painting, crown molding, etc. are things I get to enjoy and get money back out of when we're done here.
