Topic: A5 Flatline Barrel Posted: 29 June 2007 at 4:56pm |
Just had to vent:
This barrel is a very expensive paper weight. I was actually excited while waiting for my Flatline barrel to come in from Tippmann. Upon receiving the barrel...the installation was very simple and easy (so easy a caveman can do it). Now to firing the marker..this barrel has little to no accuracy whatsoever, I had a target at 50 ft and 100 ft, did shots of 20 per target. 50 ft target...11/20 hit ratio, 100 ft target 3/20 hit ratio. My Tippmann Werks barrel is far more accurate than the Flatline barrel. I was using Nightmare balls, so I switched up balls to Marblized balls..the accuracy "slightly" improved not to the amount where I was close to satisfied with my purchase.
So to make things fair I switched back to my Werks barrel. 50 ft target 18/20, 100 ft target 14/20 using the Nightmare balls, didnt want to waste anymore expensive Marblized balls since I already knew what my Werks barrel was capable of.
Conclusion.
The barrel looks good on my set up, but I can't get anyone out on looks alone, it sounds mean, I love the sound of it. Performance wise, I can say as MY OPINION only, it sucks, very sparatic, curves and hooks (would be great if you're shooting at 50 people charging at you) not accurate at all. I would probably more accurate with taking off the barrel and throwing it at someone since the thing probably weighs 2 pounds.
just my thoughts, feel free to respond, specially people that have the Flatline or have used it.
thanks

The flatline to have decent accuracy has to be alighned correctly on the gun and you have to shoot the gun without leaning the gun. The flatline wasn't meant to be accurate at close ranges. Paintballs roll right through it because it has to roll inside the barrel making the ball not as stabalized as a straight barrel. The flatline was made to hit others that are further away than what a regular straight barrel can hit. Being able to hit further targets makes it more accurate at further ranges but not close ranges.
You should have learned more about it before making your purchase so you knew what it was actually capable of.

well I was thinking that at 100 ft the effectiveness of the barrel would've kicked in, I mean, that's a decent distance for the Flatline work correctly no?
sorry, how do I resize my sig?

She's beautiful to me, so it really doesnt matter.
maybe this pic might slight your opinion, even if it doesn't, she's my girl, and I'm not with her to please your thoughts on what beauty is.

besides, this thread is about a Flatline barrel not what you think of my girl thread, please, for you to downplay the beauty of my girl, please post a pic of yours...a real one at that.

Your paint isn't consistent enough, the barrel is loose, or you don't hold the gun consistently. Flatlines get decent shot groupings at range. I've had one on my 98 custom and the A-5 was an improvement on the 98 one. Also, you must chrono them to about 260-275 to get them to shoot well. Remember, it's not really about the range, but the flatness of the trajectory.
As for the Apex. It's a good barrel and better than the flatline. It also allows you to curve your shots without tilting the entire gun like you would need to with the flatline.
Download GIMP. It allows you to crop pictures.

Perhaps it is my velocity, because I know that after reading all the reviews that the barrel couldn't of been that bad. Just as a guesstimate, lets just say my velocity screw was all the way in, how many turns should I do to get roughly within 260-280 fps?

There's really no set number of turns to get it to a good speed. It depends on your tank, you springs, etc. There are too many variables. Best thing you could do is go to your local field and chrono it and make sure you're using good, round paint.

Jesus harold, how many reasons for thread lockage do we have here?
First, the bare-ass picture, as nice as it is, is against the rules here.
So is doing anything stupidly unsafe, which guesstimating velocity always is. "How many times do I turn my velocity screw" is always an instant-lock.
And that sig is ludicrously hugely x-box big, time to nix that.
Not a very good way to start out on this forum. Perhaps you should read the rules...
