Topic: A-5 VS Pro/CarbinePosted: 03 May 2005 at 12:08pm |

I have an A-5 that I have put some work into. My brother ordered a Pro/Carbine with the long barrel and D-feed. A friend of ours used to have the prolite and we both like it – accurate, good point ability, but would chop some balls. My bro's Pro/Carbine will arrive about the same time my A-5's drop forward will get here. I feel my A-5 has the Pro/Carbine outclassed with my upgrades - but won't let you know for sure until the end of the week and I get to play with them side by side. I think I could beat him with a talon since I have more experience, so that isn’t the issue. What do you all think about comparing these two markers? Please respond with some experience... not hearsay Thank you! |

Definitly the A-5. The procabine is a good gun but its not very customizable and its very slow with its 9lb trigger pull. The trigger and be lightened by adding a SL68II trigger spring but it will still be 3lb. The A-5 is pretty fast (it also has a 3lb trigger pull) anbd it needs no upgrade loader because of the cyclone. Its very customizable and very easy to field strip with its "no tools needed" field stripping design.

A-5 is way better. Pro/carbine is a good marker.

Your A-5 is a lot better. It has the cyclone and is more upgradable.

Tell your brother to do the pen spring mod. (www.model98.net) It's when you take a clicky pen spring and replace the sear spring. This will lighten the trigger pull. Good luck with that. For the matter of the question, the A-5 is probably a more upgradable gun and faster. The P/C is also great, but in it's own way. It's more rugged and accurate(i think accurate), but slower.

Thanks for the info! I was thinking that the pen spring would probably be his only tinkering. We ordered the same day, and my drop forward came in today, so I will have to give him a call and see if he has Pro/Carbine. I'm sure it's a real step up from the Stingray he was used to playing with a few years ago. |

Well then if your getting the pro-carbine make sure you do the SL68II trigger spring mod. Like I said itwill lighten the trigger pull from 9lbs to 3lbs.

Assuming the each player is equal in skill, ball for ball, the most decked out Pro/Carbine will not be able to go toe-to-toe with a stock A-5. |

The A5 is mush faster and upgradeable, though that doesnt matter so much as experience. Since you say you have more experience, you will probably do better.

I have to laugh when ever I see these. Both are excellent guns. Yes the A5 has more PNP upgrades that the P/C, but that doesn't make it a better gun. What makes a gun superior is whether or not it fits you, meaning "does it's fit to you improve or hinder your play?".

I personally have a pro carbine, and it handles great except as a support weapon. I do believe if decked out the A-5 is superior to the Carbine, but it depends on the experience of the players. I have played against a person with an A-5 in the past and I beat him, but that was because he was still green. However, could imagine an experienced player or one equal to my abilities would easily put me at a disadvantage. So I base everything on skill. But yeah if you were to pin two players head to head with equal ability the A-5 would win. |

I don't know about more accurate but it definitly is slower stock because it has a 9lb trigger pull. It might be more accurate because its slower and you can't spray and prey but I don't know if there are any test out there to see the exact accuracy of the PC. |

The P/C came in the mail. It's a beaut. He needs to install the D-feed, pen spring mod and buy an elbow, but after that he'll be playing this weekend. It does have a nice long sight radius so the P/C is easy to aim. My first impression was that it looked shorter then the Prolite, but otherwise very similiar.

Meh IMO the pen spring mod is a waste of time. Did to my silver M98 custom and I saw no real big inprovement. You should try the SL68II trigger spring mod.
