Won't allow Frank Buckles to lie in state in the capital rotunda.
And before you say "That's only for presidents!" think again. |

I just posted this in chat. I can't believe that they will not allow this. What is to gain from this? It seems like a no brainer to me.

I would have thought precident had been set quite clearly
"Unknown Soldier of World War I November 9-11, 1921. Chosen to honor and perpetuate the memory of the heroes who gave their lives in World War I. The body was that of an unknown American who served as a member of the American Expeditionary Forces in Europe. Congress was in session, 67th Congress, 1st Session. No resolution." "Unknown Soldiers of World War II and the Korean War May 28-30, 1958. Chosen to honor and perpetuate the memory of the heroes who gave their lives while serving overseas in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War II and the Korean War, and whose identities were unknown. Authority for use of the Rotunda granted by House Concurrent Resolution 242, 85th Congress, 2nd Session, agreed to March 6, 1958." People who say no should be strung up as unpatriotic and un American. KBK |

So, I'm not convinced that this gentleman deserves anything by virtue of simply being the most too-stubborn-to-die of his generation. I do, however, believe he should be allowed the honor because this is the last chance for anyone in this country to honor a serviceman who fought in WWI by giving him the sort of burial he deserves.
Moreover, the man served in two world wars, spent three years in a Japanese POW camp, and fought in WWI while underage (presumably, given his willingness to fight two decades later in the second world war, because he loved his country so much). He deserves to be the last WWI vet we pay homage to before we can never honor anyone from that war like this again. |

That's more or less what I think. This is the last chance EVER of giving honour to a WWI vet. They've done similar before with unitentified remains, why not the last passing of the guard? On top of that he proved how much of a go getter he was by fighting in the war that came after the War to end all wars. I'm apalled that someone wants to STOP it. I'm not saying it should be like that, I'm just shaking my head that someone wants to deny it. KBK |

That guy has the name you expect a WWI vet to have.
It would only be better if it was Lil' Johnny Buckles.
