for anyone who has taken calc-
S= integral sign

i need to evaluate S(sin(x^.5)dx)

i know its not likely, but any help is appreciated

edit: i'm trying u substitutions and integration by parts

double edit: the answer is 2(sin(x^.5)-(x^.5)(cos(x^.5)))+c, i just need to know how to get it

i dont see how they got that...

it looks like a quotient rule or something... but that's for differentiation, not integrating...

grr... u gotta tell me once u figure it out.

I'm still working on it (must be crazy), and I've realized I'm going to have to make some sort of substitution for sin(x^.5) and then use integration by parts, I'm just not sure of the correct way to substitute. All help and any more help is greatly appreciated.

BTW procarbinefreak, this is interesting, I'm only in AP calc AB

well... our school breaks it up a lot... calc 1 was through derivatives... calc 2 was through integrals and substitution.  eventually this quarter we'll get into parts... just not as of yet.

I have to take calc 1-4 and differential equations, so there's a lot more for me to learn.  and i just don't remember doing integration by parts from last year in high school.

I've had this stuff, but I don't know if I remember enough to be useful to you here. I'm really horrible at the trig stuff because I took pre-calc instead of trig before stepping into calc I. If I had known I would have definetly taken the trig first.

I'll mess with it and if I can come up with anything that might help I'll post it. But please, don't hold your breath. :)

OK i got it..

the key was to set U equal to x^.5, then x=u^2, dx=2udu
