So, due to uncertainty of when I will be able to take a command in Alaska (likely 3.5 years from now) I am looking at other options for my next assignment and I want you to decide.
Seattle: Pros - Bigger base. more outdoors stuff to do like hunting, mountain biking, fishing, skiing, backpacking. All of these are things I either like doing, or want to get into. On the coast. has mountains. No state income tax Cons - Rainy, cooler weather, higher home prices Kansas City: Pros- much cheaper houses, Google Fiber, closer to home, more sun, BBQ, I would get to command a detention company at the Army Disciplinary Barracks which would set me up nicely for a civilian job if I got out. Cons - further from skiing, mountain biking. Has state taxes.

Seattle, but that's just because I've always wanted to see the Northwest. Some of the best mushroom hunting in the country...world maybe.

Seattle is nice and will produce some truly high quality political complaint posts, so I vote you go there. <3

Seattle
The reason? My dad was at both Riley and Leavenworth as a ACOE draftsman (back when you drew blueprints by hand) while he didn't hate either of them, he didn't actually enjoy either of them either. The only redeeming values according to him were good steaks, not going to Vietnam, and Coors beer. Given that Vietnam is over and Coors is now available everywhere, that leaves steaks, and you can get a good steak just about anywhere these days as well.... |

Let's be honest, if you care about mountain biking at all the PNW is the only choice.
I lived in the western suburbs of KC as a kid. It was alright, but running a brig sounds like it would suck. |

I say Kansas. The cheaper housing helps to offset paying the state tax. And and and Google Fiber!!

Seattle. My exposure to both places is pretty light, having only driven through them, but I LOVED the PNW, and could have completely done without the mid-west.

I call shens! Why? Because we all know Reb is incapable of keeping any vehicle on the road and in working order for the mileage required for that kind of a drive.... ;) |

I vote the coast. Only because that's where I would go.

I have witnesses! Rambs and PCF saw it with their own two eyes....Full disclosure though, my wife drove a significant portion of the way.

Not Seattle, the two seasons, rainy season and July. Was at Ft Lewis back in the day. Lived in Lacey between Olympia and Seattle, rain, damp, hated it.
KC..more options and better weather and Colorado is just a 8 hour drive away for your weekend winter sports needs. Live in Nebraska, Lincoln Area, love the weather and a lot of stuff to do, and places to go. |
