Ok, here is the situation...about a year ago a co-worker gave me his gun to fix for him. He is basically the third owner of this gun and it was never cared for. the macro line was blown out, the bolts were rusted, so on and so forth...anyway I told him what I was gonna need just to try and fix it up (I wasn't gonna pay out of pocket for this). He kept dancing around it and then up and quit. Didn't even bother to say anything to me.
Now here I am, a year later with the still totally busted up gun. I totally stripped it, replaced the rusted bolts (that was only like 4 bucks at home depot) and cleaned/oiled it. But it is still missing parts and needs a new macro line and such. With absolutely no way to communicate with this guy, would I be a bad person for either selling the gun off on eBay, or declairing it mine and putting some work into it?
Thoughts?

Oooh, good question. If he hasn't contacted you about it, he may have very well forgot about it. But if he does remember it and wants it back, that would make for a very awkward moment. What gun, by the way? As a side note, I'm in the same boat. That's actually how I got my first gun back. Well, my first gun was actually an SL-68 II, but I never really used it. The first gun I actually played with was a Brass Eagle Stingray II Ice (the red one). I traded it to someone a little while later. Years later, I see it at this guy's garage sale, and they couldn't sell it. I asked for it back to fix it up, they said sure. It's been about a year now, and they haven't bugged me about it. I just declared it mine, as I'm sure they don't care about it. :)

Try your best to contact him again and if you can't, I would say it's yours. Keep it, fix it, whatever. I think there is a statute of limitations on unclaimed property. After so much time it is considered abandoned. I'm guessing it isn't worth much if he hasn't come back for it. |

go to HR, they will have his contact info.
The ethical thing is to return the gun. period.
He may tell you to just keep it, but that is HIS choice since it is his gun. To do anything else would be unethical.

Nope. Tried. They won't give it out. He worked security and they won't give out his info to anyone without his permission.
As for what gun, only a Spider Fenix. Nothing to major. But the real issue to me was that it is technically someone elses property, not so much what that property is. Edited by Nagash1959 - 01 May 2009 at 12:07am |

Then go to HR, tell them you have something of his, and ask THEM to contact him and have him contact you if he wants it back...
No matter how "cheap" it is, its still his.

If you have made a solid effort to contact the guy and can't, I wouldn't worry about it. Again, if he wanted it, he would have made an attempt to get it back. If it makes you feel better, sell the marker and donate the proceeds to charity.
