how accurate is the flatline barrel for the 98 custom? im pretty sure the J&J ceramic is more accurate, but can anyone back this up? thanks. as far as range goes, i don't care. accuracy is my priority.
![]() that's my gun below, it's a tippmann 98 custom pro lost the drop forward, and that's not a stock barrel. ![]() Edited by Hudson - 24 May 2010 at 11:58pm |

The Flatline has the potential to be just as accurate as a lot of other barrels. It get's put down because of the "extended range" and while it certainly does extend the range, I feel that this is more of a marketing tactic by Tippmann to get the Flatline to sell.
The trick to the Flatline is setting it up properly. This goes beyond just setting the velocity and using good paint. No, the Flatline has to be set to the user AND the user's marker. But once this is done, the Magnus effect is awesome and will lead to some surprisingly accurate shots. The biggest tip is to use the Flatline as conventional barrels and not take it to that "100 feet" extension. At those ranges, the accuracy is going to be crap regardless, and the paint probably won't even break. Just get it set up, then use it conventionally, meaning, with the maximum effective range as straight barrels. |

I would disagree on it being as accurate as other barrels even at closer ranges. While not horrible, the flatline on neither my 98 or A5 was as accurate as some other barrels I tried. Agreed that at longer ranges the accuracy is awful. Do a search of "flatline" and you will find hundreds of threads regarding them.
One good use for a flatline I found was shooting in areas with heavy foliage overhead. Since you can shoot at a flatter tradjectory, you don't have to arc as much and can sometimes get off shots not possible with other barrels.

Well, lol, the primary reason I took the time of tweaking and adjusting the Flatline is because I was a noob when I purchased it, then was too cheap to replace it. I completely agree with you on what you said. In fact, if I could do it all over, I probably would have never even purchased a Flatline, but if that were the case, I would not have learned how to tweak it either.
