Topic: I broke the code.....Posted: 26 August 2004 at 8:56pm |

My school has only been open for 6 years, for the last 6 years the school has issued a secret code to every student. This code is used as the password to get on a computer. Well since the begging of this week my friends Mike, Sergio, and I decided to break this code and find out the secret, and today we finaly did. Now before I go anyfarther i'm going to let you know our intentions for this is to prove to the school that the students need to decide there own codes, so only they know them. Now im going to tell you how we came about all the information and prove it to you, if you have questions feel free to ask. The first 5 digets where the easyest. It was the 4th and 5th letter of the last name (e.g. richmend) the first two letters are hm. The 3rd letter is the first letter of the first name (e.g. Robert) the first three letters are hmr. The next three are numbers and the first two are tookin form the last 2 numbers in your I.D. (e.g. 453287) the code so far is hmr87. There is a 6th number which kept us thinking for the next 2 day's, we became frustrated and some times would get really mad. We knew if we cracked this last number we where almost there, yesterday we did this. For people with middle names the formula came back (n= number of letters in name) n-5=?x2, and for the people who didnt have a middle name it was, freshmen = 1, sophmore = 3, juniors = 5, seniors = 7, and 5th year seniors = 9 as the last number (e.g. hmr871). So we broke the code, its not 100%, because it hasnt been tested with every student in the school, there is a 1/17576000 chance that this is right. Now i know what you might be thinking "well what if they dont have 5 letters in there last name?". This is what we solved today, for people with 2 letter last names it was there full last name and there full I.D. number, for people with 3 letters it was the 1st. and 2nd letters in the last name with the rest of the code being the same as everyone else. For people with 4 letters it was only a 5 diget code, being there 4th letter in there last name, first letter in there first name and the rest of the code being the same. Well if you stuck through it all and have questions please ask. All names and numbers where made up at random, as far as i know those people and numbers arnt real. Edited by cadet_sergeant |

How the heck did you figure all that out? Seems like way, way too much work than trial and error...

Im quite proud of my accomplishment, no one has ever been able to crack this (they do it a diffrent way each year) last year they where planning on posting everyones name I.D. and code as the senior prank but they never cracked the code.
Choopie, some people gave us there codes so we could have something to work off of, and of course we used our own. like I said where not %100 but we havent been wrong out of about 200 student thay let us test it so I guess its for sure 2/27 correct. Edited by cadet_sergeant |

So, you got one code, for one person, and had to figure out how/ why that code was assigned?
