munky!, are you aware that the terms "yankie"(aka Yankee?) and "redneck" are inherently inoperable together?
I don't approve of being associated with hondaxr. I'm sure he doesn't approve of being typecast as a "yankie" either. Please rename your one man club to better reflect American regional variables. That is all. |

Uh, no, actually, the two words CAN and DO work together rather well.
I live in NY. Geographically, I'm classified as a 'yankee' I live in a rural part of the state, and can be demographically (unofficially) classified as a 'redneck' Yankee is an implied geographical term. They're not the same thing, so they don't contradict each other. Thus, they work well together. |

And then there is the rare occasion when a redneck exceeds the standard social standing through unusual means (rich relative dies, lottery, huntin for some food when up from the ground comes a bubblin' crude... oil that is) but they never really do assume the new role unless they also give up their redneck ways. A difficult process. |

While Reb is right(as usual), you might also remember the history of the word, and that he is Canadian. Lets see if I can explain it to you who don't have a grasp of politics outside of your high school pecking order. For people on the "outside" of the only important part of the world(henceforth known as "the USA"). We winners(henceforth known as "Americans") are also known as "yanks" or "yankies". Especially, but not limited to the UK, Austrailia, and British Canada.

Ah, you're using the term on a broader sense Dazed, in relation to the rest of the world, I should have made the connection myself, but focused instead on the smaller picture, ie, the demographic categorization within our own nation. very good point indeed. |

I'm with Reb - I know plenty of non-Southern rednecks. There's more rednecks in the South, because they want to live near their god (Richard Petty), but nests of rednecks can be found anywhere. If unsure whether there are any rednecks hiding in your area, just host a monster truck rally. They will be unable to resist the bait.
