hey i had this idea for a comm system and i was wondering if you guys thought it would work well. JT Sportz Comm is just too expensive and i play a lot of woodsball/scenario and really need a means of communication with teammates so I ordered 2 of these: to plug into my 2 way radio and was planning on just wearing them under my mask. Does anybody else use a system similar to this and does it work? |

It'll work just fine. Another option is the throat mics. The only problem with these is that they will not pick up whispering since it translates vocal cord vibration. Also if you're using VOX, don't. It's no good. Just spams the channel.

Something like in your link is what my friends and I have used when we played woodsball. I opened up a slightly larger hole in my mask with a dremel tool near the ear protection and inserted the earpiece in the hole. Then held the earpiece and mic in place with a couple of zip ties. For our use the PTT (push to talk) inline button worked nice, because there wasn't any accidental communications to spam up the channel. We got our FRS radios & PTT mics at Wal-mart. |

I think next year I'm going to get a throat mic and make my friends get one too. It's always frustrating trying to communicate with a buddy without a radio, even when they're only 10 feet away.

We looked into designing one of those a few years back, but it proved a little more complex than we had anticipated. The Firefox throat mics are the hotest thing out right now. I think the real question is Which is better: PTT or VOX? |

im planning on using vox so that we can talk under fire i dont think spamming the channel should be too much of a problem since my talkabout walkie talkie has adjustable voice sensitivity settings

well guys i got the sets in and it works great and i encourage any other woodsball players to get the same product. My only gripe is that the earpiece tends to jiggle around a bit but has never fallen off. Twist tieing it to the mask fixes the problem

PTT is by far the best. If you mount the button right above your trigger finger, you can press it with that finger and pull the trigger with your middle simultaniously. But you shouldn't be doing that anyway. You should just be getting out of the line of fire and pressing the PTT button for a short convo. Problem with VOX is that you get a whole bunch of noise from just normal things such as running when you start breathing heavy. Then it gets annoying to others.`

Seems like a good idea. I dont play in the woods a whole lot anymore but sometimes when I did I'd see guys using systems like that and they all said it was very usefull. I was thinking about using Throat VOX in speedball games for better communication within your team, instead of just yellin at each other all the time, and developing a system that your teams knows but the other team doesnt. Could work
