K we all know how a golf ball flies through the air right with the dimples thats how golfers get all that range (250-300 plus yards) i know that though my potato gun golf balls have a long like really long flat tragectory and a lot of accuruacy with no spin applied with back spin this would give the flat line quit possibly another 100 ft or so and mabe double the accuracy with regular guns it would work wonders flater tragectory and greater accuracy this could also increase the impact speed at longer ranges causeing the paint to splater easier. and by the way for those of u who don't know how golf balls work the dimples break up the air and move it so there is less air resistance again please get back i wanna know wut you all think |

less resistance???
it actually has something to do with pressure. The turbulence created by the dimples causes high pressure behind the ball and causes it to go further. Paintballs have different ballistic properties than golfballs. Otherswise bullets would be dimpled. Anyway, Run a search next time. This idea has been suggested hundreds of times. |

it seems like it would be hard to put dimples in a paintball. i mean a paintball is a lot smaller than a golf ball.

the dimples would also mean tht some of the gas gets around the paintball meaning there will be less thrust behind the paintball. |

now that i think about it...if there were dimpled paintballs, wouldn't that be tough to use with those barrels with the spirals on the inside to give good rotation on the ball? how would the barrels give good rotation with dimpled balls? my guess is that they wouldn't.

If there was a way to launch the paintball through something other than the usual method (like in a pod or something) then it would make a difference. Other than that, the pressure needed to push the paintball out of the barrel and the turrbulence in the barrel would be affected. Search for a topic that i posted (alot like this besides the fact that I didn't claim that it wasn't stupid).
