I want to customize the look of my 98. Do i need a sefty to play paintball in future turneys, and general play. My safety is to uncock the gun, and i can turn off my air very easily. In fact. I really cant use my safety because of the trigger stop.

Um... Well I'm not to sure about tourney's but I think it would be ok to take it out. I bondoed over the hole of my saftie. Just call and ask your local field. |

NO! sorry to say but u need safetys where ever u go bcus the pball fields have some licence which says that all guns need safety

^^^^^^ Not exactly... But some/many fields do require a working safety on guns. Not that I have ever seen a "safety check" anywhere. I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep that barrel sock on. |

He's right. Both of the fields I go to say you need a safety, although, I haven't seen them check either. |

Safeties are used for safety- bypassing this is of course, less safe. Sure, they won't check or notice. BUT, when they do notice you won't be able to use it.

my safty is turning off my air since i have a DOP pro 2. What do you think?. I know i have to have a sock at my field.

Once I installed the adjustable trigger stops my safety no longer functioned...it would not engage. We cannot leave the playing field with out the sock on and there is no other place except in the chrono shed where you may remove the sock. Also, with the 98C E-Bolt there is an electrical switch to turn things off. On our field even with no cylinder attached to the marker, if you are outside the playing field, you must have the barrel plug or sock in place. |

electric guns are all different, but most of them just have a little button they press to enable the safety. And I would recommend keeping the safety. Although your field may not care, if you ever go into a tournament or to another field, they may care. And that would suck if you and some friends went to a new field and you couldn't play becuase of such a small issue as a safety. Keep it in. |

On my new Mag the gun fires when you put the gas on if the safetys off. Safetys are pretty necessary.

The safty annoys me I'll turn it on (or on of my friends) I'll have a
good shot then safty is on and I miss out or get shot my self.

there's a reason for safety devices. Leave them alone. You might not need one but there's always some chucklehead that does and that's why they are there. All the fields I've been to check for working safeties and 'accidental misfires' get 1 warning then ejection for a subsequent offense. Don't diminish the sport because of an "accident"...and since someone mentioned legalities...I could foresee that if you (or anyone) purposefully removed a safety device and something happened that you took someone's eye out...you WILL be liabel in Civil Court for injury/damage/pain and suffering and possibly charged criminally for "wreckless endangerment; Criminal Negligence," or something similar. Lesson? LEAVE SAFETY DEVICES IN PLACE. |

i cant use my safety anyways, too much modding.
I believe there are many was to make the gun safe beginning with an on off asa, uncoking the gun, and removing the paint. I have an on off asa, can this be considered a safety? |

No. I have an on/off CO2 tank. I turn my air tank off after a game, but
the lines are still pressurized. I can still fire about 2-3 balls
before the pressure runs out. On/off is just to keep CO2/air from
leaking out. It was never designed as a safety, and should never be
considered one.
Lesson: don't rely on the on/off. Keep your safety in. |

you guys are like lecturing me. I have been handleing real steel more than most of you, i know what safe gun handeling is. What do the rule books say (NPPL) on safeties? I dont want opinions.
and this is an on/off asa, not a tank, so when i turn it off, there is no pressure. Just as good as any switch out there Mr. Sargent Duck. |

But a little anecdote: Two of my guns - my cocker and my mag - are tweaked to the point where they shoot even with the safety on. On the cocker, I actually use the safety as my trigger stop. I was playing with my mag a few weeks ago at a field known for their extreme safety measures (BFG). After topping off the air, my gun went off and blew two into the barrel condom. The field manager (who had just filled my air) took my gun out back and quickly cleaned it off for me so I wouldn't have to miss a game. As he said: "that's why we require barrel socks". He certainly knew my safety didn't work, and it didn't bother him any. |

i mean if your trusting a safety to keep from shooting, your going to be in a bit of trouble. 3 rules for "real steel" Always point the gun in a safe direction (in a game, a safe direction can be another person), keep the bolt open or uncocked till your ready to fire, and keep your finger off of the triger till your ready to fire. This is what makes a gun safe, not some little trigger stop prone to error.
