Hey gang. I recently bought a few mods for my 98c. I was intending on getting an expansion chamber for it, but on the advice of a friend, I was told to opt for a regulator setup, because they're adjustable. So, I got a Tippman Proshop regulator. As I waited for it to arrive, I began assembling all the other goodies I got for my 98c (Pro2 DF, vert adapter, Lapco barrel, collapsible stock). So now that my 98c is back together, I started finding all this stuff online about how the Proshop reg I bought will only work with a low pressure setup. So, I assume that if I set it up anyway, either the gun won't operate, I'll ruin the reg, it'll blow up in my hands, or all of the above. Is that a safe assumption? My friend can't tell me much (which makes me wonder why I listened to him in the first place). I'm not opposed to moving to a low pressure setup. I was looking into a expansion chamber or reg because I want the gun to fire the long ball a little more consistently. If a LP system will help with that, then that's cool. So if this is true about my Proshop reg, what do I need to do to get my gun converted to a low pressure setup? Is it as simple as getting Tippmann's LPK, or am I better off piecing one together? Can I piece one together? Should I get rid of the reg I have and get an expansion chamber? Or should I look for a different reg that will work for my current setup? What's everybody's feelings on LP setups for the 98c? I'm a modding n00b. Thanks for reading. Edited by ChavezSA |

ChavezSA-
If you hook up HP air, or a CO2 tank to your gun, you may exceed your your Tippman Reg's input pressure resulting most likely in a blown O-Ring, rupture disc, etc (whatever the overpressure failsafe is on that reg). The LP Setup in itself does not appear to improve in your shot-shot consistancy in itself. However, if you take the route of using the LP kit, in conjunction with a reg, and a compressed air system, you will have a greater consistancy, year round. Additionally, your velocity adjustment will no longer be dependent on that powertube screw but, instead, the output adjustment of that Tippmann reg. You can piece together a homegrown LPK- Get a lightened Titanium bolt, a madman adjustable spring kit, a homemade volumizer, and a Vertical Adapter (from either BT, or Tippmann). I believe there is some work in the valve area as well for the do-it-yourself folks but, I've never done it personally, do a search to find out more. Alternatively, you can buy the kit for a little over $100. Personally, I love my gun with the low-pressure setup. Quieter, less kick (due to lighter hammer), and more consistant velocity (and therefore accuracy, dependent on the quality of the reg). |

Thanks for the input gang. Alot of good info/advice in there. I think I may eventually step up to a LPK, but only once I do some more homework on a good setup. In the meantime, I think I'll get myself a expansion chamber and hang on to my reg for when I'm ready to step up to a LP rig. Thanks again. |
