is the ion high pressure only? or could i get a low pressure tank as well

You can use a low pressure tank but you really should just get a high pressure one and bring it down with a reg.

The Ion will operate on both effectively. Either way, the HPR will bring to pressure down, so it doesn't really matter. However, at high rates of fire, a High Pressure tank will help prevent shootdown. A HP tank is also more versitle (can be used on almost all guns, as where LP tanks can't (like Tippmanns)). So, if you're buying your first tank, I'd get a HP ouput.
