Hi to all. I´m new to the whole paintball experience and I need some advice. I would like to take more longer an accurate shoots.... I have a Custon 98... so my doubt is: what´s the main difference beetwen sniper barrels (16 inches) and flatline barrel system?... what´s the best? ...and what would the most recomendable (first) upgrade to my custom 98? Thanx!!! |

Flatline= Distance & less accuracy ...No such thing as a Sniper barrels.. Oh yea you want to get a barrel from 8-12 inch.. any longer is just a waste of air. If you want a regular barrel i recommend a Big shot or JJ... |

sorry for butting in but this is bugging me you and alot of other ppl have said longer barrels are a waste of air, but how does that make any sence? there is no extra co2 or whatever you have come out of the gun just because the barrels longer. heck i have 7 guns and one of them has a 21" barrel on it and its my best barrel i have for distance and accuracy isnt bad either. and i have one of the tippman 14" sniper barrels (its just a name, calm down!) and its alright i like it more than my BT-16 barrel but i dont have a flatline but ive heard and seen alot of them in action and ill agree with A-5_Whore on that one. |

I have a team mate who always argues his flatline is the best there is however it is less accurate and a very heavy barrel for that matter. I use a Lapco bigshot 14" and have nothing but good things to say. It has never had one breakage and has actually never needed cleaning in 4 seasons. This is still an common arguement we have as A5 owners and you'll find that most ownwers of tippmanns weapons cannot agree themselves. The bottom line seems to be that my buddy's FL will far 1/3 longer then mine, however he experiences accuracy issues and has many more ball breakages in his FL which leads to him vulnerable while in the filed. My advice is to pick up a Lapco Bigshot or a Lapco SnapShot. I've also heard whisper barrels and Dye Boomsticks are alright, but you'd need an adapter. *Be sure to use HPA, c02 is unreliable! |

it's aright to butt in... i don't mind.. But How come they don't make stock guns with 21 inch barrels? since they are soo accurate and uses the same amount of air as any barrel??? Edited by A-5_WHORE - 01 February 2006 at 1:38am |

the cost of making a 21" barrel would be a lot more than just quickly making a little 8" stock barrel + it would be pretty big box. and to add to that why dont they just make all guns with 12" or 14" or even 16" barrels answer its cheaper for company's to make smaller barrel so you have to go out and buy a better barrel Im not tryin to get anything started with youor anybody i just belive that a 8" barrel will not use any more co2 from the tank then a 14" or 21" oh i think i just got what your talking about, are you saying they use more co2 if the barrel is fluted or has multiple hole in it? if so i apologieze. |

The extra inches would slow the paint down. You would have to turn the velocity up more to get the same speed and accuracy of a shorter barrel. Just stick to 14" barrels. Anything more is just for show. If you wanted a shorter barrel then the Bigshot is the way to go.

i love my 12inch cp barrel. I have not shot a flatline but some of the people i play with swear by them and some don't like them at all. The first upgrade you would want is a barrel. talk to people who already have 98s and see what they say and see if you could shoot theirs that way you can see what you like. What ever barrel you get i would recomend getting the size .689. If you plan on using co2 i would also recomend an xchamber. like alot of other people on here they will tell you one major factor in accuracy is your paint to barrel match.

On a tippmann the velocity screw doesnt adjust how much gas is used. The screws only purpose is to get in the way of the gas flow to slow it down. So no matter how you set your velocity you will always us the same amount of gas. This being the case it will use no more gas to push a ball out of a less efficient barrel then a very efficient barrel. This may not be true for other markers but as for tippmanns it makes no difference where you velocity screw is in relation to gas consumption. One exception is a rear velocity adjuster, this will make the hammer hit the main valve harder or softer which will open the valve longer or shorter allowing more or less gas out respectively.

He's right... How is it even possible for the velocity screw on the tippmann to draw more air... I had never even thought of that, I just assumed that more velosity = more air used |

Speaking from experience, the best barrel I have ever used was my old 18" Lapco SnapShot. It was great! I replaced it with a less expensive 14" BigShot and find it just as good. Ypu'll find alot of guys here tell you longer barrels are a waste. for the most part, if you play the ole' sniper role you can get away with a longer 18'' barrel; however I would generally stick to 12-14 inches and look into a bigshot. They are as good as it gets. As for the cost issues, they guys above got it dead on. You buy your maker according to both cost and effectiveness. Buying a gun with a quality barrel would add $100+ to the cost, making it less appealing to buy. *Remember*! The barrel IS the FIRST thing people upgrade. Most stock barrels are crap. |

Actually for a Sniper I would go with a 24-26"heavy match grade barrel, better to get the maximum powder combustion in the barrel and a higher muzzle velocity. The barrel should be free floated on the stock, and glassed in for the best accuracy. I would also use the superior 162 Grain Sierra Boat Tail ammunition, for better areodynamics in .30-06 caliber. Also I would only use a Mouser bolt action, the stiffer bolt action equals more accuracy, you should be able to get accurate shots past 1000 Yards. |

Lmao Snake! You are right on that one man. Just picked up an old 50's Mauser. Accuracy to the extreme. 100 yards in 15 mile an hour wind, 3 shot group was in half an inch. Without wind that would be damn good. Sorry for the off topic rant. No snipers in paintball. Even the guys that claim to shoot very few balls and try the whole "One shot one kill" thing usually crap themselves in a firefight and shoot more paint than any two normal rec ballers put together.
