I am thinking about buying an A5 flatline barrel, and would like to know if they are as good as the other sites say they are, and if not, please tell me another barrel I should get.

The A5 flatline works just as it's advertised. How well it works depends on the type of paint you use, and your velocity settings.
I like it because is shoots flat (hence the name), it's short, and with some slight modding, can be quickly mounted or dismounted with a quick twist of the wrist. What I don't like about it is the noise (it's about the loudest there is), and that you can't drop paintballs over bunkers or obstacles like you can with a regular barrel. Anything is better than the standard A5 barrel. |

well it depends on what you wanna do if u want to be able to shoot a lot longer and in a straight flat path then the flatline is the way to go. i use a 14" j & j and its very accuate and half the cost of the flatline Edited by sn00py13 - 02 March 2006 at 10:58pm |

i wouldn't recommend the barrel. its nice, and that is about it. there are several reasons. 1) you need good paint for this barrel to work well. and generally good paint means money. money gets low and you wish you could shoot some crappy paint. remember, your not a professional so spending $75 a case of paint to break on someone isn't really cost effective. 2) the distance is alight. seriously when you start shooting at HUGE distances there are sooo many things that affect the flight path of a ball it gets rid of the actual accruacy of the ball. no matter the FPS of the ball, it will get affected, its just moving too slow, the surface area is huge, and even though it is a special barrel, its not a bullet. 3) price, you can go on ebay and buy BOTH a J & J and Bigshot for about the same price. 4) its heavy, and i am not really a complianer of wieght, but after awhile my arm does get fatigued. the barrel is light, but that shroud is really really heavy, for reasons unknown. why do they use ALL metal and not a high density plastic? again i would not recommend this barrel. |

I'd get the BT Apex. It can do everything the Flatline can and more. Not to mention you don't have to use good small bore and great paint for it to work well. Also, it's just as accurate as any other barel out there, unlike the Flatline which lacks the accuracy of regular barrels (good ones).

The opinions of those who don't actually use one shouldn't count for much. I bought one, I've used it, and I think it was worth the money. It's really good in some situations, and a little less good in others, but it's always GOOD.
I have four barrels for my A5, a flatline, a boomstick, a lapco, and the stock barrel. All but the stock barrel work very well, but I use the flatline more than I use the boomstick or lapco put together. If you can afford a flatline, it's worth having. If not, there are plenty of other choices out there. |

i have used a a5 w/flatline , i have bin shot by a a5 w/flatline and i must say they are great barrels. and about spending alot of money on paint for it... well me and my friends use dusk which is $40 a case which is pretty cheap for how good of paint it is. i have not broken a ball using dusk in a flatline and i have had my flatline for bout a year now. and most of all, the type of barrel depends on the person using it, some ppl dont like that flatline, some people do, its all on personal opinion.

I don't use my Flatline anymore... too bulky and inaccurate. I use my J&J and my Pepper Stix.

i was wondering when someone was going to say that. compare a regular barrel to the entire flatline setup, and yes it is very heavy. its the end metal pieces that weigh so damn much, and i never noticed how heavy it was until i was paintballing and the game was lasting forever. again, go with something cheaper, you won't hit someone at a 100yard range with any accuracy. most of the time paintball fire fights happen within 20-30 yards...dependt on the type of game you play. |
