- take everthing off -the plastic parts: put together to that it is straight - then slide the barrel on -finishing puting on -so the barrel is screwed on right but all the plastics that go around it are off set? |

Turn the barrel and the adapter to the left. That will solve it hopefully.

Now there is an insightful and at the same time an inane question all rolled into one! The Flatline is call the Flatline because its design causes the paintball to develop backspin as it travels through the barrel. The backspinning paintball, once it exits the barrel, interacts with the air to generate lift. Therefore, rather than the ball traveling in the normal arc shaped trajectory, it travels in a flat trajectory nearly parallel to the ground. The Flatline barrel has a curve to its shape causing the ball to actually roll against the top side rather than travel down the center as it would in a straight barrel. The inside of the barrel has a bead blasted, relatively rough finish that generates traction on the surface of the ball...making it roll rather than slide through the barrel. The system works very well. The interior textured surface builds up some residue from the surface of the paintballs and needs to be cleaned periodically with dish detergent and hot water. If the Flatline ceases to shoot the flat trajectory it is usually due to this residue build-up. After 200,000 shots the barrel may become worn smooth to the point that it needs resurfacing, which Tippmann will do free of charge. The Apex barrel incorporates a different method to develop the same spin. The Apex is straight and causes the ball to spin by using a small rubber covered ramp at the very muzzle end of the barrel. There is a slid mechanism that controls the amount of deflection of that ramp thus controlling the amount of spin. The Apex can be adjusted so that it shoots virtually identically to the Flatline. Or one can create more backspin which can make the ball travel even further than one fired from a Flatline. The ball will actually climb during its flight path allowing you to aim low and have the ball rise up as it travels across the field. The Apex mechanism at the end of the barrel can also be rotated causing the ball to curve right, left and downward (called the dive bomb mode). Strictly speaking, with such adjustments available there is little use for sights...you just watch the flight path of the ball to adjust your impact point. |
