I was curious because of the milling on the A-5 Flatline if you can still drop oil into the bottomline asa and dry fire it or will the oil be absorbed or somehow hurt the Flat-Line?

It will hurt the flatline. The inside of the barrel needs to be rough. Just take the flatline off its easy to do with an A-5 compared to the 98 custom.

Take any barrel off before you oil, If you didn't take the barrel off
then make sure you clean your barrel nice so the paint doesnt get in
contact with any oil.

For optimum performance the barrel needs to be as clean as possible...there has to be high friction between the ball and the curve of the barrel bore to develop the required spin. Removing the Flatline on an A-5 is easy. Remove it when dry firing to disperse oil through the marker. |

Alright, just making sure. whenever I oil I dryfire my gun about 25 times... that should get most of it through right? P.S. If some oil did get in the Flatline somehow it wouldn't ruin it right? I'd just have to swab it out correct?

Have you succumbed to the rumor that the Flatline is coated on the inside so it can be damaged by chemicals used in the marker? The Flatline barrel is bead blasted on the inside to provide the textured surface on which the paintball gets rolling traction so that its backspin is accomplished. (though that surface is "rough" it feels smooth to your finger and looks like a coating of flat white paint) Over time small scratches develop in the barrel, but they make no difference. If you use your Flatline for 200,000 to 300,000 rounds it may become worn smooth. (and the ball then no longer flies parallel to the ground no mater how clean the barrel is because the ball slides inside the barrel, rather than rolls). At that time, send it back to Tippmann and they will re-beadblast for no charge. Since the inside of the barrel is a high friction surface it wears a little material off each paintball that passes through. Over time this gelatin builds up and reduces the traction of the ball. The Flatline needs to be periodically removed and washed internally with hot water and dish detergent (while pulling a squeegee through first on direction then the other). Rinse, dry with a paper towel pushed through, and let stand on end to completely dry. If it becomes contaminated with oil, follow the same dish detergent washing procedure. |

DID I SAY PUT IT IN THE DISH WASHER? Do a search and quit cluttering up the forum with essentially duplicate questions! Pampering! And you have NEVER used a paintball barrel before that is bead blasted on the inside either. Forget about it! Don't do anything to your barrel except run your squeegee through it when you break paint...then come back in a few months when your Flatline isn't working as well as it used to...maybe someone will tell you how to fix it...maybe not. Other's said to put it into the Dish-washer I'm listening to other's as well as YOU Bruce. Pampering wise there really aren't that many bead-blasted barrels that I've seem, MAYBE the Apex one is I'm not sure but I used to use the top-of-the-line Dye Ultralite.. which is most definatly NOT bead-blasted. Anyway since Bruce is getting all pissed off I'll simply end this lol. I work on a technical computer forum constantly solving people's problems who need it said MULTIPLE times and I almost never get that annoyed (most likely because I constantly have Family Guy on) meh.

Family Guy! Well, there's the problem. All barrels, except the Flatline, are highly polished on the inside(even the rifled ones). The Apex, also internally polished, uses a rubber covered ramp at the very end of the muzzle to impart the backspin. And again, my point of irritation was multiple posting of essentially the same question. A question that has been answered literally tens of dozens of times and easily researchable. Do you enjoy having to repeat information that is explicitly stated in literature available to the person on your help forum? You answer the question anyway, but the the questioner doesn't completely read your in-depth answer and also questions your veracity. I am sure it peaks you just a bit! |

heh heh heh... Rifled barrels... what a joke they are...
oil on the inside of any barrel, to my understanding, will hinder its performance. So basically, unscrew the barrel. With a flatline this is more difficult obviously, but not so much that it cant be done. |
