98 custom three round burst?!

    At the "Operation Halo 2: Codename X" game at Wasaga Beach last Saturday I had MANY problems with my marker. I have a Tippmann 98 Custom with the Barret M82A1 Kit from OPSGEAR on it and for some reason or other it seems to have "switched" into some kind of a three round burst "mode". Yes, this may sound awesome but the problem is when it does this (about 85-90 percent of the time) the paint maybe goes 50 feet at max. I haven't put any kind of e-grip or response trigger on it and I still have a gravity fed hopper.

    It was doing something similar towards the begining of the game, except that then it would only go about 5 feet and I'd have to re-cock after every shot. I took it apart, cleaned the bolt, ect. ect. It was fine for a couple of shots and then it started doing this three round burst thing.

Any ideas?

I just bought the gun in Feburary of this year.

Worn sear and rear bolt is the most likely problem, also check and make sure the the bolts that hold the powertube in place are tight.

I think you might be onto something with the powertube because as soon as I tightend them at the big game last saturday it started working for a bit then started this three round burst thing.

The bolt and sear are not the problem, I checked them out first hand, .....In my right hand. The power tube screws were a bit loose, but I snugged them up when I reassembled the marker. Also, I didn't get the honour of playing with the gun so I could be wrong, but it didn't seem to be firing in "bursts" very often, at least not 85-90% of the time anyway.

Then you werent with me very often, "captain" . It was, pretty much every shot... at least in that final raid it was. Keep in mind you werent always right beside me. But yah, you should've taken it to play with it when I asked you too...

make sure the ball detent(little orange rubber thing) isn't in backwards.

My ball detent... is on vacation. Where the hell that went to is beyond me.

You probably lost it last time you were cleaning it. I suggest putting a parts kit together with a couple detents, spare reciever screws, good allen wrenchs, orings, and various other things. It may cost around $30 or so, but its a life saver at big games.

Let me suggest the things good to have with you for emergency repairs that will keep you in the tournament.

1) At least 2 "O" rings for each of the kind used in your marker (including tank "O" ring).

2) A couple of the type of screw (or quick connect pin in the case of the A-5) that holds the marker together.

3) Two spare detents.

And in the case of a 98 or Custom Pro, add to that kit:

4) Two front sight/feed-neck release springs.

I also carry a spare 98C feed neck because the steel blade connector broke once. Another time a hinge pin fell out and was lost. The remaining pin broke in the hole due to the load of  the continued play with the weight of the hopper.

Then Allen wrenches, screw drivers and preferably two strap wrenches used for disassembly. A can of oil.

And to top it off, if you are running an E-Trigger or an E-Bolt, twice the number of batteries needed to replace all that are necessary for the marker to function...including an electric hopper.

just a tip, but the pins that hold the feed neck on are the exact same size as the rod part of a 3/8 welding rod.  i lost a pin, found a welding rod, cut off a piece, bevelled the ends slightly, and boom.  new pin.

I lost my parts kit......

It had oil, a nice set of wrenches, the end cap (So now im stuck witht the stock) and a few other things :(
