I was reading on a forum somewhere that the 98 custom uses a method of disrupting airflow in the chamber to control ball velocity?I just got a brand new leftover 98 custom without the ACT technology, does this apply to my gun? Could someone please explain this to me? |

Yes. The velocity adjustment screw basically blocks the air flow down the power tube to the bolt and ball. The blockage in the flow is what regulates your velocity.

on the side of the gun with the tippmann/98c logo there is a small tunnel near the middle of the gun, there is a screw in it, (allen)
its a simple concept, fields make you shoot under 300fps through a chronograph usually, mine is 285. you turn this screw in to reduce the speed of the balls coming out and out to increase |

Basically it wastes air by choking some of the air that is coming out. If a Tippmann had a regulator, you could tune it using the reg like on other higher end guns. This would increase efficiancy because you could turn the velocity adjuster to be flat inside the power tube so you don't waste air by choking it.

Just a side note. Remember when adjusting velocity that Tippmann's are back-asswards from most other guns. Turning it IN lowers velocity, likewise OUT raises it. Makes sense eh? Maybe its the other guns that are backwards...
