Homemade QEPH ?

   The QEPH mod for the Cyclone is nothing more then a metal version of the stock plastic tube with porting correct? Wouldn't it in theory be possible to just cut ports into the stock tube? Any of the veteran modders got input into tools I could use or if it would even work?

	The stock piston housing (tube) is metal. It would require a lot of milling to become a Q.E.P.H. Also the Q.E.P.H has a teflon coating inside to help reduce friction. Some have tried to mod the stock housing by drilling hole's in it where they think they should go. Todd told me the ports on the Q.E.P.H were found threw extensive testing. I say, if you feel like drilling a few stock housings to see if you get lucky, go for it! But I say just buy a Q.E.P.H.

	You could check one out in the store and measure exactly where the ports are so that you at least have the right location when doing it yourself. Since the stock housing is just plastic, you could probably just use a dremel and cut some slits or drill some holes, however you want to port it. However, like Tippy said, the QEPH also has a teflon coating so you wouldn't truly have a QEPH though you'd have something similar. I actually considered doing this myself but I've decided against it for now as I can't outshoot the cyclone at the moment anyway. I may end up getting an APE board and making my A5 electronic which would let me shoot fast enough to require some cyclone mods. In that case, I may try making a QEPH myself. If I do and it's successful, I'll share some pics and whatnot.

	Has Tippmann changed the piston housing to plastic? Why do you guy's keep referring to at as plastic? Mine and many others is made of aluminum! I have a newer A5 for the record. Edited by TIPPY98ACT - 07 June 2007 at 10:03pm

	My bad. I got a Cyclone for my 98C, and I figured it was plastic. Upon examining it more carefully it actually is metal. I guess the idea wasn't as easy as I figured. Perhaps I shall just drop the spare change for the QEPH.

	I love TechT products in general but the holes on the QEPH are not scientific or located in "specific" locations at all. The QEPH is literally a bunch of holes randomly placed to vent air. Ive had my own version of the QEPH for almost a year. The holes I have are at the very end of the piston movement just after the cyclone ratchet is fully "clicked". The QEPH holes vent air before the ratchet clicks fully. Theres no doubt that the QEPH is a great design but you can totally do it yourself in less and 30 minutes with a drill. My holes arent pretty and I made 1 large to experiment. I havent had any problems with my cyclone at all. Ideally you want smaller holes so that theres no friction on the oring. If you look in the upper left of the pic you'll see a 1/4" hole in the bottom of the cyclone. Thats an old hole I put there to vent air OUT when the gun pushes the cyclone forward.
