Don’t stand in the middle of the road!

   So coming home today, I was driving through the edges of downtown.  I was on a one way street, two lanes, with the left lane widened so cars can be parked in the street.  Speed limit is 35.  Driving in the left lane when cars are parked leaves me about a 1 foot clearance on both sides of my car, but the right side is far to bumpy (potholes).  The other major problem is hills, they aren't super big, but enough to restrict the view to about 300-400 feet in front of you at any given point, many times less.  

So I was driving around 35, and had just driven over a hill.  Well there was an SUV parked on the side of the road, both passenger side doors (the door facing the street) wide open, and two people just standing (from what I saw) behind the doors pretty near to the center line.  I had about 5-6 seconds from the time I came over the hill and saw them before I passed them, luckily there was nobody in the right lane beside me.  Had there been, the ordeal could have been just as bad because lining the right side of the road, with no space between the asphalt and them, are a bunch of huge oak trees.

Yep, try to spend as little time in the middle of the road as possible, especially when vision is restricted.
