I just bought a new Tippman 98 Custom Power Pack today, but it doesn't say anything about A.C.T. on the box.  The owners manual that came with it says that it is the manual for all 98 Customs with or without A.C.T. and then shows each 98 Custom model, but has an A.C.T. logo beside each one of them.  One is led to believe that they all have it.  How can I tell if mine has A.C.T. or not?  If not, is it super important?  I'd like to know before shooting it, so that if it is important I can take it back and buy one that has it.  Thanks!

It would have had a little blue oval on the box that said "A.C.T." if it had it. The other way to check is to open it up and take a look at the linkage arm and hammer. If the arm has a bend towards the rear of it that travels between two posts and has two separate springs behind the hammer, then it has ACT, if the linkage arm is a simple 90* bend at each end, then it is not.

On the grip of your gun it should have a blue circle that says ACT in it if your marker has ACT.

Wow, thanks guys.  So how important is ACT?  I'm new to paintball, obviously.

well it comes in handy, it's to stop most (or maybe all) ball chops done by the hammer.

ACT is a nice thing to have, but it isn't important. The vast majority of older upgrades you can use on the 98 negate the ACT anyway, so if you're going with a configuration other than stock for the internals, it's pretty much gone the moment you upgrade. It helps out should you get a jam or decide to try and run an RT or E-grip without upgrading your hopper to a motorized one.

I don't run act and I almost never get chops even when it is cold, also you
won't have to worry about chops unless you are firing pretty fast.
