You will want to upgrade you barrel because most stock barrels are crap. The main thing in upgrading your gun is to play some games and figure out what you want to be improved.

Well acuraccy and distance are mostly barrel related. Your distance will be the same unless you get an Apex or a Flatline. Your accuracy will improve with a better barrel, but most of your accuracy domes from your ball to bore match.

Without ACT and an R/T or E-Grip, you're going to need at the very least a ReVLution. Of course, if you're working on a budget, a used eVLution-3 will cost about the same as a revvy these days. It'll feed fast enough. Just looks ugly.

ok i figured that much. my question is can i put a RT or ET on my 98c without ACT. my gun is bone stock except for a double trigger and a lazer dot sight. i had to buy a normal 98 and not a 98 pro becouse of my lack of money.

Yes all of Tippmann's upgrades are made for act and non act 98's. You will for sure be able to get an RT, but for the ET to work you have to have a newer one with a serial number above 890,000.

I think the serial number  is on the body somewhere around the TIPPMANN writing. Also I forgot to mention that if you do upgrade your speed you will probably want to buy a pack/harness to hold pods of paint. Also read this: http://www.tippmann.com/forum/wwf77a/forum_posts.asp?TID=619 29&PN=1

for more upgrades.

Personally, and this is just my 2 cents, I would purchase the RT and match it with an Empire Reloader 2 (you can find some great deals on eBay.)

I have upped my 98C (which I sold) and some friends' markers with the same mods and it has worked brilliantly.

For me accuracy is more important than distance.  I don't care for the practice of "long balling" other players.  I have a Flatline, but I use a J&J Ceramic barrel 99% of the time.  Having a barrel kit is a nice (but expensive) option because you have the ability to switch out the backs to match the bore size of your paint, but if you primarily use one or two brands of paint, I would recommend matching up a barrel to that paint's size.  The paint that I use, both FPO or BYOP, is primarily .688 or .689, so I use a standard J&J Ceramic barrel (.689 bore size.)

For price (about $30) to performance, J&J Peformance is the best way to go.  If you have a little extra money to spend, check out Palmers Brass, Lapco Big Shot, and Hammerhead.

In addition to jordanpischke's recommendation of purchasing a pod pack/harness, I would suggest upgrading your pod tubes to Dye Lock Lid Pod Tubes if you don't already own them.

I would watch  yourself with the R/T. Alot of fields don't allow them in speedball matches, and they are completely illegal in any tournament.

Snake6 makes a good point.

I know that there is a team that uses Tippmanns for speedball, but other than that, I haven't seen too many players actually use 98Cs in a speedball tourney.  I would check with your local fields first to see if they allow the use of a RT (the fields I play at do) and if you want to play speedball tourneys with the 98C, maybe a E-Trigger would be a better option.
