I've cut the template for the guitar.  Because the Maple I have is only 12 inches wide, the guitar is about .5 inches smaller in the lower bout than a Les Paul really is.  I think once it gets it's thickness and the parts it will look better, but I think it looks a little weird now.  Should I scrap this template and make a different one?

My band saw broke so I did this all with a table saw and a dremel.  I matched my paper design perfectly though.

EDIT:

Rough cut.  One of my pieces shattered upon cutting it, so I will have to get another one.  It barely fits between my armpit and leg at this width, so I'm happy it wasn't full width.  The thickness is considerably larger than my other guitars (by about 1.25-1.5 inches), but I will get used to it.  It is also rather heavy at 6 lbs.

There's about .25-.125" extra on all parts which will be sanded off later.

Full thickness:

One board short of full thickness:

I don't think it looks too bad. What other ideas do you have in mind if you would scrap this one?
Pumpker'd; (V.) When a pump player runs up and shoots you at point blank range because you thought 20bps made you good.

Eh...

A semi-hollow LP would kill, but something just looks... off...

Great start though! Glad to see you following through.

Actually, considering what it is, I think it's too skinny. Since that's the widest you can get it, refine the main part of the body. Make it less egg-shaped, and more round.

/my opinion

The front bout and concave parts, basically the whole front end, would match perfectly to a Les Paul.  But the back being about an inch less in width looks weird.  I think if I increase the length of the concave sections it will even the body out a little bit.

I didn't follow the grain because this is only a template, and will not be on the guitar.  The actual wood for the guitar has the grain flowing in the right direction.

Pretty nice.

The back looks a bit too circular though.

To put this into perspective, I'll post my picture with all harware installed and to the correct dimensions.  The body on this CAD drawing exactly matches the body I cut out of the wood, to within 1/16 of an inch.  I think once I get all the stuff on there it will look right.

Anyone know exactly how your supposed to get the electronics into a semi-hollow body?  All of the ones I've seen are sealed off in the back, I can't figure out how they do it.  I assume there has to be some way to access the electronics for maintenance?
