So I know that the cyclone feeder uses co2 or air to operate, but does it use co2/air directly from the air tank or does it use excess or exhausted air that the gun did not use itself to push the hammer?  I guess the question that Im really asking is does the cyclone feeder use more air than the same gun would use without the feeder, therefore resulting in running out of air sooner?

correct, it doesn't use any extra air.  But, if your tank gets too low the cyclone won't cycle (even if your bolt recocks) because there isn't enough excess gas to power both.
