    Posted: 10 September 2008 at 11:08am
I just bought a used tippmann a5 from my friend that he has owned for a while now. It used to work when he had it and I know because i saw it work. I took it apart to clean it and put everything back where its supposed to be.

After that, I cocked and fired without co2 just to make sure it works fine. I pulled the trigger and it feels like the insides (when pulled the trigger) feel sluggish and only go really slow, ive never owned an a5 so i dont know what its supposed to feel like I it just feels like theres  a spring missing or something.

Anyway, I added co2 and cocked and dry fired, and it shoots once - but doesnt turn the cyclone NOR does it re-cock for semi auto fire.

It has these upgrades - response trigger and dual trigger. i tried disabling the response trigger and it still doesnt work... i checked the air to the cyclone and the tubes seem to be fine... so I REALLY dont know whats wrong. Please help me. Im not 100% sure... but i think it might be the drive spring... but I dunno how it is supposed to be like so i dont know for sure...

I will also try to get a video up soon to show you.

UPDATE:

I took out the drive spring (I assume thats the spring all the way in the back of the gun behind the bolt?) and I measured it at 4 1/2" long... I dont know how long these are supposed to be so Im not 100% sure thats the problem still...

ANOTHER UPDATE:

I stretched the drive spring and loaded some co2 and now its shooting semi auto perfectly. BUT... My cyclone feed is barely working... when I shoot straight ahead it doesnt load another ball, I have to do it manually... but when I point the gun at the ground at about a 45 degree angle or less, it works fine... A CLUE??? please someone help me out to get this gun working solid..

I would start with taking the cyclone apart to check moving parts and make sure the rubber washer type think isn't worn really bad.
check youtube if you dont know how to take it apart.

when you lean it forward liquid co2 might be getting into the gun making the velocity spike. so i would check the velocity  and get it set right . also make sure the tube or or air line going into the cyclone isn't leaking

try that for starters

I measured 3 new stock springs.  They measure approx. 4 3/8 inches.

Disassemble your cyclone and look at the plastic ratchet to see if were it engages the feeder axle it is damaged or torn.  This is a common problem that can be cured by going to the metal ratchet and axle, about $35.00, or you can get about 10 plastic ones for the same price.  Check the adjustment on the response, it is a matter of trial and error to get it to work just right

Make sure you use the proper oil. Don't use WD40.

I used BSA bearing oil which works the same for skates and stuff, I use them on ceramic bearings so i know the o-rings will be fine.

^^^Not necessarily, ceramic bearings are a lot tougher than o-rings.  I would recommend using Hoppes #9, actual paintball marker oil, or air tool oil; in that order.

As for the original problem, if you have the manual checking the schematic and making sure all the parts are there should be your first step.  If you didn't get the manual with the marker there are versions of it available on the Tippmann website.
