I have 2 questions:
1) What volume is the low pressure chamber?
2) Where can I get a low pressure spring for the valve?

mmmmmmmm i think you should just buy one. clicky pen upgrade and any other kind of non-manufactured paintball gun upgrade will ruin your gun. If you mess up you lose more than if you just got the lpk in the first place. save up some dough. sell some junk. buy it.

umm nooo, people ( I am one) do it all the time. And more than one person has made thier own LPK, TinMan got a custom made one. And if he has the tools to make one of his own then i say go for it. After all, whats better on a custom gun than custom work you've done yourself.

The reason I want to do this myself is because I'm trying to save some
money. Why should I spend $100+ when I'm only going to use the valve and
the low pressure chamber?

I saw that before, but that's not what I'm looking for. He bought the
Tippmann LPK and modified it. I'm talking about building mine from scratch.
(Unless someone wants to sacrifice their LPK?) I don't need the VA because
I'm going to mount a Palmer's Stab right to the ASA and I don't need the
hammer assembly because I'm using an E-Bolt. It's going to look a lot like
Bruce A. Frank's when finished.

Anything lower pressure than the stock, and the spring tension needs to
be lower. It's not an exact thing, you can fudge it. Tippmann's setup is
just a ratio between spring tension/flow/hammer mass/production cost
that works for them. My 98's LPK consists of Tippmann's LP valve setup
and a heavily milled bolt. I've used a Dark Horizons Titanium hammer in
there too, that works fine.

Mine runs around 400psi and very quiet.

Good writeups on this at model98.org. No exact volumes or spring
weights or anything though.

The volume of the valve isn't really the issue so much as air flow. The
channels in the LP valve are MUCH deeper than the stock. The volumizer,
however, is about 1" diameter and 2.5" long. Walls aren't too thick either.

I imagine you could cut the stock valve spring down and stretch it, or heat
it to soften the temper. Worst that can happen is you have to get a new
spring.

Register and look at the LPK mod. The guy is pretty thorough in the explination.

This is not a quick mod by any means. This will involve milling your valve to allow a higher flow, reducing the springs in both the valve and the rear hammer. Heavily milling the back bolt to reduce weight, and making a custom volume chamber.

Unless you have the skills and the tools required, just go buy a kit, much better waste of money.

I did what you suggested, Monk, and bought the kit. I have another question
though: How do I remove the low pressure chamber from the vertical
adapter without destroying either?

Id use padded vice grips and a wrench, the same way of taking the braided hose off the valve.
