does the hammer simply stay forward or do you get the "rapid fire" type of issue like you'd have with a low tank?

My guess is it's either a backwards ball detent or a swollen o-ring. Most likely the former.

Further advice:  Break out the manual (or look at one online) and take your marker apart to learn how everything works.

Could be that your screws holding the halves together are loose.  make sure they are tight.

Have you taken the gun apart yet to investigate? This could be caused by quite a few things and it would be good to know that the gun internals can at least pass a visual inspection. I'll list some possibilities off the top of my head:

  • Ball detent is in backwards (I'll admit it, I did it when I was a newb because I wasn't thinking)
  • Gunk on/around the front bolt, rear bolt, linkage arm
  • Gunk on the valve internals or a crummy valve o-ring
  • Worn/damaged drive spring (unlikely unless you treat the gun like crap or it's very old)
  • Tank output pressure is low (try swapping tanks with a friend if you don't have a spare and test with CO2 and compressed air)
  • Screws near the rear bolt and sear are excessively tight
The ball detent is most likely the culprit but a dirty or poorly maintained gun can easily bind up when cycling and cause the bolt to stop. An easy way to go about fixing this is to just disassemble the gun completely, clean everything as best you can, put everything back together, and lube all moving parts (a drop or two in the ASA will travel up to the valve internals if you don't feel like taking that apart). Obviously, while doing this, you should be inspecting the parts for damage and whatnot. This will rule out the first four things in the list and possibly the last one too in addition to helping you get to know your gun's internals better which will help you solve/prevent any future problems. Let us know what the problem was if you fix it. Also, this thread belongs in the Maintenance and Repair section; T&O is generally used for non-paintball related stuff. Welcome to the forum.

The irony of this post is there have been 7 replies all trying to help the poor guy, and you're the first otherwise.

I was expecting it much sooner.

I think this represents a new era of T&O.
