I recently got a tippmann 98 custom for 40 dollars. It has the original
barrel, no stock...basically no mods. I had to repaint it cause the
paint was literally just kinda peeling off. It is the ORIGINAL, NON
A.C.T MODEL
My friends have the Alpha Black Tactical markers that look like M-16's, and those are on sale for 120 dollars or so at Sports Authority until Saturday. What I MIGHT do is sell my 98 to another friend for 50 dollars, and buy the Alpha Black Tactical marker, but I really don't know. I've also held my friend's alpha blacks, and i just barely notice a weight difference so that doesn't bother me. I also really really like the handle and rail sight, feels much more accurate than my 98. We were firing them into some woods yesterday, and my 98 was making a much, MUCH louder echo. They are missing their velocity screws, so I kinda blame that, but is the 98 more powerful than the alpha black? Are there any advantages that the 98 has that the Alpha Black doesnt? I know it's not quite as customizable but the important things like e-grip triggers and laser sights and all that can still be done right? Basically, talk me out of selling my 98 and buying the Alpha Black. Thanks in advance. |

Because I was interested in finding out a little bit more myself, I went ahead and looked up your question on Google. What I learned from the Special Ops forums (and I'll post the link below so you can see for yourself), the 98c is the way to go. The reason for this is that with the Alpha Black, you don't have the same flexibility with upgrades that you have with the 98c. If you're willing to put the money into, you can transform your 98c into a very reliable, much better marker than the Alpha Black. Again, that's what I gathered from the posts on the forum below. So basically what you need to ask yourself is this: how much money are you willing to put into your paintball marker? If the answer is not much, go with the Alpha Black.

Ok, you effectively already HAVE the Alpha Black, because the internals are strikingly similar to the 98c. I belive the AB doesn't have the ACT in it either (not totaly sure...)
Anyway, your would effectively be paying $70 to own the gun your holding now...
that isn't very economical...
As for personal preference I have a 98c (also the non ACT model) and I love the thing. It has served me well over the years and I think sticking with it would be the best way to go. You can add/modify/replace stuff to it as you go, or even get other guns, but your 98 will always work with a few drops of oil and a couple of swears.

i agree with what the other 2 people have said.
I have 4 98s and they are all completely different from each other, each set up is for a specific style of play and I know for a fact each of my 98s would be much funner to play with than the alha black. The internals are very similar most tippmann guns are in line blowbacks with little variations, But out off All the tippmann guns the 98 has the most upgrades availiable and it will always have more potential than the AB, But its all up to you
