Hi
I just opened my A5 for the first time, I found what seems like a scar i the metal. Inside where the painballs enter the chamber. Is this normal? And does it affect the markers performance? There is no marks on the moving plastic piece that sits in the front, so i doubt this has caused this. Please take a look at these images: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/871950/001.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/871950/002.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/871950/003.jpg Edited by atomic - 25 August 2009 at 5:41am |

You may be able to smooth those out with a scotchbrite pad.

I've stripped a couple of my 98's down to bare metal and there are a few spots like that in each. Cast aluminum appears to just do that.

They are pretty smooth already, funtunatly they are not sticking out, they are like holes into the cast.
Hopefully they will stay like this and its not something that will get worse. |

If it bothers you that much, get some JB weld and sand it down after it cures.

As long as it isnt a rough surface, its no problem. Cast aluminum tends to form shapes like that, its especially noticable if you ever stripped the paint off a Tippmann and polished up the reciever with steel wool, youll see alot of spots like that that end up a pain to smooth off.

I work in the Die Casting industry making transmission components for a MAJOR US brand of automobiles and I can answer this one. This occurs when the die surface isn't perfectly smooth. It looks like soldering to me. The die had aluminum "soldered" to it in that area. They should have shut down the machine and cleaned this off since this area is a critical area.It isn't going to harm the performance of your marker since there are no O rings traveling this area that require a ultra smooth surface to seat against. If you found a "swirly" shape that looked like a crack then that would be a cold shot where the aluminum cooled prematurely to filling the die and is cause for worry.Your marker is fine, if this really bothers you go find someone that is really good with welding aluminum and have them clean it really good and zap it for a second(any longer and it will be a total meltdown and deform the case) in those areas to build them up and carefully hand machine them back down to a really smooth surface first using a rounded file, then progressively finer grades of emery cloth.JB weld might come off and the pieces will gum up the works.I wouldn't suggest using it. Doing nothing would be better than using that.
