Sharpening Serrated Blade

   As much as I love straight edged knives, I have found that having the last part of the blade serrated comes in real handy for cutting thick rope/etc.

But a dull knife is useless, and my Gerber is getting dull.  Do you guys have any advice on how to sharpen a serrated edge?  (Typical for me) I have misplaced my sharpening stone so I will be buying a new one here soon, and was wondering if you guys have any tips or products that I will need to sharpen the serrated portion of the blade as well as the straight edge.

	You need a special round stone for sharpening serrated blades. edit- by round, I mean cylindrical. There are plenty of videos/resources on this topic if you google around a little. Edited by Benjichang - 06 November 2009 at 2:26pm

	i thought serrated knives never get dull? or is that only certain ones?

	I found some sites telling me to use a special little stone that is triangular in shape, which I don't see working since the gullets are different sizes and rounded. Other than online, I can't find a tapered "rat tail" file that states what grit it is. I hate paying for shipping, it just feels like getting kicked in the nutts.

	Some guys I know use sandpaper around a screwdriver with lots of oil. Not sure how good that is for the knife though.

	Or just send it to a professional. There are a lot who sharpen knives for $10-15.

	I have a Lansky Sharpening System that does a great job of sharpening knives. They make a serrated blade accessory hones that work well.
