Went down to southern Kansas for the re-enactment. Had a blast, event started Fri afternoon, my group the 1st Nebraska were teamed up with 2 other samll Cav units, along with a high school class of 25 portraying Infantry as a class. We were outnumbered by Confederate Cav 3 to 1.

I ended up as our sides 'Scout' as I was picking out the bad guys at a distance as we screened the supply wagons and our sides cannon. The 'Commander' from another unit immediately picked up on my talent and I was sent all avore to scout and screen for the main group. Just played my usual 'recon' role but now on horseback.

There was a proffesional photographer there and some great shots from the action and 'staged' actions will be ready around wednesday. I was complimented for my appearance and skill on the horse. I actually reloaded the Sharps on the move on the horse during running battles, most of the troopers were using pistols, and I could pull a cartridge, open the breech, insert the paper cartridge, close, pull a percussion cap from the pouch, place cap, and fire repeatedly on the move.

We had a great day, I used 7 cylinders for my revolvers and over 50 rounds for the sharps. We ran from 1300 to 1800, had a great campfire B/S session reminding me of the early OMHW events. Only the oncomming storm that we ended up packing up in a downpour at about 2200, by AM it was snow so we loaded up the horses and we headed home. SNow was total blizzard conditions at times, 20mph was considered fast. By the time I got home to lincoln my trailer with all the foot lockers with mu gear was totally snow packed, that nasty brown road snow. Took $10.00 at the car wash and a hatchet to break lose all the snow. Me and momma unpacked and all gear was prety dry other than my cav shell jacket, a corner was sticking out ot the footlocker and the cake brown ice discolored the lower trim in that area.

All in all fun.

Bad weather at a reenactment? No way! haha, in the dozen years I've been doing this, I've had about 3 events done in perfect weather.

And if you're fielding with the Tigers in May, you might need 50 rounds a day for that weekend. Wink
Glad you had fun, I'm dying to get back in the field ASAP. My season was a short one last year, since it started about the same weekend my son was born. I did one event in Pa last year, that was it.

Also, nasty weather will season a uniform like nothing else.
