I've acquired Jeep fever apparently, and I'm looking at a Jeep on the dealership lot that my dad works at. Is the 3.8 6-cylinder in the 2007 Jeeps a good engine?
I don't like the fact that it's a automatic, but I'm not going to be the only one driving it I'm sure. Unlimited X, that's about middle of the road as far as Wrangler trim levels go, right? Unlimited is the 4 door, X is the "trim level"? Or is my research wrong? |

I've owned a wrangler in the past. Be prepared to spend some money if you plan to do any upgrading.

I drive a TJ (97-06 body style). Mine has the 4.0 L I-6 engine. I have no experience with the V6 in the Jeep, but I have a friend who said it's pretty good.
You are correct, the Unlimited is the 4 door Jeep. I'm not 100% sure where X fits on the trim level, in TJs, X was the first trim level, but I think it fits higher in the lineup in current models. My Jeep is an auto, while I would have preferred a manual as well, but I bought used too, and beggars can't be choosers. |

No idea about the 3.6L straight 6. Iv got the 4.7L V8, and I get about 13mpg, so be happy.
Shubs correct about your trim package.

Get a 06 or older...these new Jeeps look ridiculous with the giant plastic trim covering them...completely ruined the look of a Jeep.
I've got an 05 with the l-6 with a stick...its a lot of fun to drive. |

I quit buying Jeeps when they did away with the straight 6 as an option.

I used to have a '93 YJ with the straight 6 and a manual transmission. Loved that thing. Best 4x4 for the money IMHO. Short wheelbase made it pure joy to drive in the snow. It was fun to trailride on state land too. And on the dunes.... ohhhh yeah!
I had a hard top and a soft top for it. Just a fun fun vehicle.
As far as getting away from the Inline 6, I've heard lots of grumbling from the Jeep faithful. I'd just rather they offered the 5.2L (318ci) V-8 for the Wrangler. It's a tried and true engine that's been around forever.
