A5 Barrel O-Ring Question

Hi folks,
 
I am trying to figure out whether there is supposed to be an o-ring on the barrel, or is the o-ring inside the marker on the adapter ?

A5 barrels do not need an o-ring.  Newer adapters have one, I believe the older one's didn't.
