Hi thanks...you should read the post.  Mineral oil is the #1 ingredient in hoppes and pnuematic tool oil.  In fact hoppes states that they are pure. And I didn't know you've been to every gun store! Thats impressive.

Hoppe makes several products, but there seems to be confusion as to which to use in your marker. As an avid competition pistol shooter I know their products well. Hoppe's #9 has always been the cleaning chemical which contains solvents designed to remove gun powder residue and metal fouling in the barrel. Hoppe also makes a gun oil, more than just a "pure" mineral oil, it is a high quality lubricating oil and IT IS RECOMMENDED BY TIPPMANN.

Paintball residue is water soluable. When you want to completely clean your marker, take it apart, setting aside the small parts, and spray it with hot water. Oil residue will come off by adding a little dish detergent to a sink full of hot water. Use a soft brush, like a tooth brush, to clean all the nooks and cranies, Rinse with hot water and dry. The receiver of the Tippmann is an aluminum alloy. Gas chamber valves and the hammer are steel (I wouldn't emerse the marker's internal parts in a sink full of water). Both will corrode if left wet for long periods of time. Dry the receiver and parts well.

Some advocate running the disassembled receiver through the dishwasher. That has some advantages, but be aware that the detergents used in automatic dishwashers tend to etch aluminum parts. I have had no problems with the 98 receiver going through the dishwasher but on one occasion I dropped the aftermarket aluminum bolt into the silverware basket. The aluminum was etched by the detergent so that the outside surface was rough to the feel. In use I was breaking paint. (I guess that the next ball comming down the feed was abraided by the rough side of the bolt) I then polished the bolt with a buffing wheel and no longer had problems with proken paint.

One last little point, the dishwasher is pretty powerful and may remove paint. If you have ever touched up the paint on the gun with a can of spray paint, that will definately be lifted or removed by the machine.
