Topic: Regulators !! Posted: 20 July 2004 at 11:50am |

I am getting a great deal on a palmer stab for my a-5 (only $50 barley used). I was looking at other regs on the net and I was wondering if any other regs work well with the a-5 because I dint like the way the palmer stab looks. I am leaning toward a bob long torpedo reg now but I am not sure. What works and didn't work for you guys?

I am pretty sure the Torp has a lower output pressure than the A-5 can tolerate. Not sure though.

Yeah well the BL torpedo says 0-900 psi output so I think that it will work when I want to run my a-5 around 750

BL Torpedos run from 0-600. Tippmanns are suposed to run at 800 psi.

You can buy different internal spring systems for the torpedo. I also want to know if and how many more shots the palmer stab will give me out of my 68/4500 crossfire tank. The field I play at can only fill to around 2500-3000, and me being the back man, can go through all 2500psi and still have the game not be over.

It won't give you anymore shots per tank, it'll just makes those shots more consistent.

Unless you're running a low pressure kit with the Madman Spring kit, you aren't really going to get more shots out of your tank.
The Bob Long Torpedo's maximum output pressure is about 600, but people have been able to use their A-5 at 600 without problems. But you're pushing the Torpedo's limits.
The best way to figure out how many shots you're going to get per fill is to use the following equations:
1) 3000psi tank - X ci * 10 (a 68ci tank will give you about 680 shots)
2) 4500psi tank - Y ci * 15 (a 68ci will give you about 1020 shots)
3) 5000psi tank - Z ci * 20 (a 68ci will give you about 1360 shots)
These are rough estimates and are mainly determined by your setup and other factors. Since your tank is only being filled at 3000, it would fall in the first category.

Nope. You shouldn't talk about things you have no idea about, it only spreads false rumors. You can run your A-5 at 450-700psi dependant on which spring you use. The Pamler is hands down the best reg for Co2, and the torpedo has the second best recharge rate. I've seen Timmy owners switch to the stabilizer.

If my posts seem strange it is because dial-up gives me too much time to think.

You're assuming someone has a Madman Spring kit. Madman Spring kits are not stock with an A-5. No need to be a pompous jerk when correcting people.
With the Tippmann low pressure kits, you're supposed to have your tank output about 200psi above what your marker's operating pressure is, in order to prevent starving your gun of air or shoot-down. Which is why mot people recommend a high preset tank over a low preset tank.
No doubt this applies to a high pressure as well. If a HPA and C02 tank are preset at 800-900, then the operating pressure of a Tippmann would be in the 600-700 range. About the limits of a Bob Long Torpedo.
