I am planning on purchasiing the $188 98 custom package from Discountpaintball.com. (Here's a link to it)
The package comes with:
  • Tippmann Custom 98 Paintball Gun in Black or Silver (choose below)
  • 20 oz Aluminum Co2 Tank
  • JT X-Fire Thermal Goggles Black
  • 200 Round Tippman loader
  • Barrel Plug
  • Allen keys for velocity adjustment
  • Gun Lubricant
  • Cleaning cable
  • Owners Manual
The question that I have is what protective gear should I get... I don't mind if you share what brand you think is best but I was just wondering what actual items of gear I'll need.  (Eg, chest and neck protection, knee pads, squeegee, etc.)  What kind of clothing should I wear? Also, If there is anything bad about the above package you want to point out, or if there is something vital I'm missing then let me know. -BTW, I really don't have a tight budget

Overall - What's a complete list of the things I need before I step onto the field?

Thanks,

 - The Gnome

Judging by your wording, I can sense that you have never played before, correct?

Before you go out and buy a bunch of pads, play the game first. Then you will have a clearer picture of what needs to be upgraded.

Mmm, not really. The hopper will go out of style fast. You will want a Viewloader Revolution or Evolution hopper before anything else; especially if you get an E-Bolt or RT. The hoppers mentioned are probably available at that same site. Have fun with your new gear.

PM me if you need anything else. I have to go to bed.

Perfect for a new player...

The only protection you will really need is a mask and a throat protector...I wear a headband over my neck for protection

Basic 98c package and you'll be dumpin the stock barrel after yer 1st game....rule of thumb when owning a marker, 1st upgrade "the barrel" which one you might ask, that would depend on what type of paintball games yer gettin involved in.

You really do need to play a game or 2 before you decide you want any more protection. A throat/neck protector is probably a good thing to have along with a cup. As to what clothing you should wear depends on what game you are playing. It sounds as though you will be playing woodsball, so stick with camo. Most of all have fun and be safe!

Hmm, to me, the mask is the most important protective gear that you need. Not only for protecting your eyes, if you have crappy masks you cant see anything and get shot in the mask. So i suggest that you get a better mask like the JT Flex-7, or a proto, and if you got the money, then get a V-force profilier or the Dye Invision (have both like the v-force better).

Next get a 12 in squeegee also if you want a swab(fluffy kind of squeegee)

Next a harness. I have an evil 5+6 harness but i dont think you need soo much paint. Just get like a small pack, like one that can hold bout 3 pods. Cause for a stock tippy most of the time you dont even go through one hopper full of paint in one game.

next what to wear. If its your first time playing then you are scraed of getting hit. Then you should wear a T-shirt, Hoodie Sweater, some shorts and jeans or sweats over those. you should be protected enough. Sure your be burning hot but your be protected
For me i wear a T-shirt or Under Armor a jersey, some shorts and Dye paintball pants. This is because when im done playing i can just take off my pants and my jersey and i would be all clean.

You might also want to purchase a pair of gloves. I have a pair of Dye C4 gloves and i love them. But a JT glove would do the same. You can also use some gardening gloves, or football gloves to that matter, this is if your tight on money.

Besides all that.

Have Fun!
