im looking to buy a tippmann gun. i wanted either the 98 sniperifle or the A5. my local dealer said that the A5 was an airhog, that you couldnt get too many shots per tank. and that shots fired from the sniper, tended not to be to precice at close ranges because the shots dipped. if could get the opinion of someone who owns one, that would be great. thanks

well i have an a-5 w/ a response trigger and it is a gas hog.  if money is an issue i would go w/ the 98 and get some upgrades but if u have the money i really like my a-5 b/c it comes w/ the cyclone which saved me money on a new hopper.  Honestly ive never shot a 98 with a flatline but there arent many times where u play in the woods and are at a very close range (hopefully u dont wanna use a flatline for speedball).

The flatline does not cause the shots to "dip", though it can cause them to curve upward if the velocity is set high enough. I have a 98 and an A5, and it seems the flatline on the A5 works a little better.

At close ranges the flatline is no more or less accurate than pretty much any other barrel, but at long distances it really shines.

For I will wander to and fro,
I'll go where I no one do know,

the a-5 isnt much more of a gas hog than the 98c. the cyclone uses excess gas, just like the rt.

The A-5 gashog myth...

The A-5 has essentially the same valve and internals as the 98, which means that it uses pretty much exactly the same amount of air.  As BK noted, the Cyclone and RT both run off excess/wasted air.

That said, you will get fewer shots per fill from your A-5 than from your 98.  This is because as the tank empties and pressure drops, you won't have enough excess air to power the Cyclone.  Your gun is still working, but you have to manually advance the Cyclone.  In my experience, when you Cyclone stops working, your gun will stop shooting about 25-30 shots later.   Hardly a big deal.

A-5 is not a gas hog i get same effeciency with my A-5 with a flatline as i did woth my 98c flatline.  The flatline on the A-5 is like 90000 times then the 98c one.  If i had a 98c i wouldent even bother with it  i dont like haveing to adjust it i would rather just slap it on and be good to go like the one on the A-5
