    Posted: 27 August 2004 at 12:40pm

Hey folks:)

I am a field owner from Pa. and I have a question. I want to take a 98 Custom and trick it out as far as I can... electronics, barrel system, LPR, etc. I am looking for any information I can get on exactly what upgrades to do and what to stay away from. It needs to be tournament legal, similar to Tippmann Effect's set-up.

Thanks!

im from pa, what feild do you own?
anyway, the 98 custom has countless upgrades, but this is what i think,
Fire-power- e-bolt, or auto response(sometimes not torny legal)
Barrel- flatline barrel system, or lapco bigshot
Air system- tippmann comp-air kit, with hpa tank
Other accesories- electronic hopper(halo b)(needed), drop forward(recomended), sight rail(opional), new grips(op.), and many many others. hope i helped you out.

Thanks guys! Very good feedback. I am very aware of the many upgrades that Tippmann offers and wanted to get your opinion. Again, I wanted to keep it tourney legal and put it up for sale in our pro-shop. We often get players that will come in and talk about their Timmy or Shocker or their DM4, which are all great markers, but they kind of look down on those who shoot 98's or A5's. I wanted to show these players that a Tippmann can be upgraded to a competitive tournament marker, just like theirs. I was at the IAO in Pittsburgh this year and saw a young Tippmann team shooting 98's... and they were as fast as any marker out there!

triggerhappy1... I am from the south central area... Chambersburg. Right off Interstate 81 about 15 minutes from Maryland.

Thanks again guys.

If you want some more ideas, I'd check out Milkmans's and Natural Newbie's 98's.

Milkman's

and

Natural Newbie's

You could also look into making it centerfeed, and getting it powder coated if you wanted.

o god that would be a sweet setup, and fast as hell to, the only other things i'd get would be a blade trigger instead of a double and a halo b just because i like the looks of them better than the revvys for some reason, but other than that id stay with everything else

EDIT: you're not too far away from me(about 2 hours), when you get it done it might be worth a trip up to pa to see it, i could just stop by on my way back from skirmish next summer unless its been sold, it would also be sweet if you came to the local field(about 1 1/2 hours from you) where im at and put a few tourney guys in there place, the whole thing about tourney guys thinking they're gods gift to paintball is getting really old

rave5910,

Where are you located? My guess is southern MD or northern VA. I haven't actually put it all together yet. I'm doing some research right now and getting as much info. as I can. I want to add the right upgrades... not just throw a bunch of 'stuff' on it just to trick it out. I want to have a good tournament level 98 similar to what team Tippmann Effect uses. Now, I am sure that teams at that level have parts that are exclusively for them... but I think I can get something really close. Tippmann products are very popular around here... as well as Timmys, DM4s, Shockers, etc. I just want to have something available for those who don't have a big budget. Tippmann seems the logical way to go.

Thanks everyone for suggestions:) I will keep you updated.

Actually, most TE players only use an Ebolt, LPK and double trigger. They're not really "tricked out".

And all of their upgrades are GTA parts, so anyone could buy them.

Hey slimjim23:) Cool, your from C-burg? Our field is located on Statler Road right behind Shalom Christian Academy, off Social Island Road which is off Route 11 south. Just about in Marion. Check out our web site, I have a few pics of the field in the 'fields' link. www.1shotpaintball.org.

What I'm looking into initially is a 98C set-up with an E-Bolt and a LPR to start. I have been talking with Tippmann directly, and they have some great suggestions. I will probably go with a Dye Ultralite barrel set-up and/or a Blade or standard double trigger. Air will be a Crossfire 68/4500 LP tank. I am not a huge fan of drops so I will have a Tippmann ASA on it. The loader will either be a Halo B or an Empire Reloader B, they would be the only loaders that would keep up with the marker without adding some type of anti-chop system. I did hear that there was a shorter high performance o-ring free delrin bolt that would fit a 98... anyone know anything about that?

maroon-out, I have to find it really hard to believe that TE only uses stock Tippmann upgrades:) Their 98's shoot aweful fast for that! A friend of mine told me that he heard that they have custom mercury switches added to their electronic set-up's. But anywho... they sure are fast markers.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!
