So - I am contemplating a 12-gram adapter for occasional use instead of a regular air tank.

Does anybody have experience using 12-gram adapters  - the kind you screw into a regular ASA?  Thoughts?  any recommendations for brand/style?

All thoughts appreciated.

12 grams have a lil piece of what it looks like tin foil on top, when u put it in to a 12 gram adapter ( not  a regular ASA ) the hole is punched and air starts flowing

no, there is an adaptor that you can screw into your ASA that can hold a 12g CO2 cartrage.  I'd love to have one as a backup.  You will only get about 20 shots though.
Just shoot yourself and save me the trouble.

A Tippmann CVX valve will get around 28 shots dry firing and 32 shots with paint.

Good brand Quick Changers would be Rat-Attack, CCI and Cooper T.

As a backup or fool around thing a 12g would be cool. But as a primary air source it won't do you much good on a semi.
