I'm looking to upgrade my A-5 from stock barrel to a new one.  Which is better for woods/rec?

J&J Ceramic or Lapco Big Shot

i have the bigshot and its great - for the price, you cant get a better barrel that can match its accuracy

I doubt you'll get a solid answer to be honest. Of the two you selected, most users love the one they got first. For me it was definately the J&J Ceramic. It is very accurate and is also very friendly on the pocketbook. I was further sold on the fact that they still make them for the SL-68 / 68-Special. I own six J&J Ceramics and am ordering two more. I prefer the 12" barrel, except on my SL-68.

And I will say that for the price, you cannot get a better barrel for its accuracy also. I have not had difficulties with bore size matching in regards to breakage, though I have seen some differences in accuracy.

My biggest selling points (particularly for woodsball) include the following:

  • It is a very quiet barrel. So quiet in fact that I have been playing with my 68-Specials on the field and people came off the field and had to ask if I had played with them because they remembered them being so much louder.
  • It is very easy to clean. Off-field a hose and a squegee are all it needs. On-field with time a normal squegee will keep you on target. But in the thick of battle you can get by with tipping it on its side (to prevent balls form entering) and firing empty a few times before you get right back to shooting those pesky defenders.
A-5: 12" Ceramic, Egrip/WAS/Duel, HPA, MP5 sliding stock
SMG-68: 12" Ceramic
68-Specials(8): 12"&14" Ceramic, 12V Revy *** 1 Tip-n-Strip, 1 Blue, 1 FA w/Qloader
SL-68: 14" Ceramic
SMG-60 Ext. Line

I have my bigshot and love it, it costs a little more but is also a little more accurate than the J&J (not by much though). But if you are a little low on cash then get the J&J and spend your money on other upgrades.

i prefer the flat my self i found it to be verymuch worth the mony and i have put over 4000 balls through it without problem. it is a little heavy but who cares i can hit you 100 ft before im evin in your range. i find it to be as accurate as i need it to be and have never had a problem.

Just my 2c

i'd say get the bigshot if you go to opsgear.com they have the bigshot with a tactical finish that comes in a 7.5",12",14" but if you got the extra get the flatline great for woodsball mine workz like a charm.
