yeah, the 98c is a great marker to start off with. the a-5 is good too, but it costs more. you can upgrade the 98 later. paintballs...i use mainly afterburners, evils, sometimes bluestreak, and basically any other kind i can afford.

Go for a 98c or spyder. The 98c is a very durable, reliable gun and you wont run into as many problems as you would with a spyder. Now, spyders are bad, they just "malfunction" alot. Any paintball will work that is in your price range. I don't recomend Bluestreak or Wildstreak, unless you like jelly-filled painttballs that fly in a diffenerent way than your target.

98c slow, but durable, spyder fast but durable as a wicker chair when your mom sits on it.

I got a 98c and I am very happy with it.  You really shouldn't worry about speed until later because if you don't have any skill to put speed on top of, it doesn't mean **edited**.  Anyway, the 98c is the most customizable gun on the market, so you can put any spin on it that you want.  Anyway, half the fun of paintball is customizing your stuff (I customized my own camo for christ sake! ).  Well, maybe not half...most of it is making other people cry...but that's besides the point.
I shot my friends brother in the ass with a once...I'll be the first to admit; trying to outrun a 200 lb. Irishman fresh out of jail is like calling Tiger Woods black... It just doesn't work.

i hope you plan on buying a mask as well. one of the 98c greatest features is its abilty to be greatly customized with upgrades. Later on when you have more money ide recomend getting a new barrel. a 12-14 inch lapco bigshot or j&j ceramic would work fine. Also avoid paint by brass eagle(blue streak, wild streak, afterburnerer...) they wont do very good in a 98c.

you need a tank, mask, and the gun to get started man. i would't buy the Power Pack because it comes with a cheap mask and small tank. You really want to get into the sport, then get a thermal mask later on after you see how u like it. have fun.

why are all of you n00bs the same??? 98's this, 98's that. If you dont have a lot of $$$ dont get into the sport of paintball. It is so damn expensive to play... (but its worth it). The a5 is able to customize just as much as the 98 and you dont have to buy a $150 electric hopper because the a5 has the cyclone. The 98 is good and durable but I have never seen a 98 outplay an a5. dont get a case(2000)paintballs $40 and under because they suck. Get the $60 kind like Diablos or Marblizers.

I'm going to the darkside...

I don't care what anyone says if your new go for the Good durable gun start out slow and see if you like it first i seen to many people go out and buy all the best stuff and hate it after a few weeks.  my best advice would be 98c as for paint i shoot diablo if you don't have the money then go this road 98c a good mask 20oz CO2 tank and small case of diablo paint i find it works best with a 98c like every one said spyder sucks
win with Humbleness, loose with Dignity, and always play the game with heart

Why not get a Tippmann Pro/Carbine.  It is more durable/Reliable than the 98c or A5 as it is simply put constructed with better quality.  It is a super simple gun that performs really well right out of the box.  Shure it is not uber fast stock but with simply a new trigger its just as fast as a a5 or 98c.  They are aslo super easy to maintain and  are alot eaiser to feild strip.

Oh and they look kewl

just get the 98c. and hey 5MAST ever think that most people say to get it because its good. and you act as if no one has ever sugested to get an A5 before. you arnt going to out shoot a gravity hopper untill you do some upgrading anyways, and you are getting ripped off if you pay 150 for a hopper, they are 65 tops for a egg.
