Well as some of you know I ordered a pair of headphones, they are called Speedlink Medusa 5.1 They have 4 speakers in each ear pad, and a mic attached to the headset. They also come with a headphone amp to make the surround sound work. These headphones are only distributed in the UK and in euro. So I had to pay some huge shipping fee's to get them over here.

Well, I got the headphones, and let me tell you, the audio quality is superb, bass is incredible, and the surround sound (From what I can hear, is precise) there was a problem though, The "front" plug (sends out put to the Front speakers) on the amp was dead. So I send an email to the company to see what they would say..

these emails all took place withen 3 hours of the first email.... Incredible customer service, It will be awsome is the new amp works correctly.

First email from me:

Well, First off I would like to say thank you, You got these headphones to me very promptly and in good condition...

However, Everything looked good until I opened up the Amp box... I took out the Amp and noticed that if I even slightly tilted it something inside the box would rattle around, This was discouraging. indeed. I tested the headphones out, and found they sounded great, and that everything was fine, EXCEPT I could hear no front channels when conducting a speaker test. So, I wanted to find out if the headphones front drivers were dead, or if the Amp was messed up... I took the 1/8th headphone adapter and plugged it into a headphones to RCA adapter... Then I took one of the connetions that came with the box, and hooked it up to my PC, idividualy I tested each driver (speaker) one by one, and found that indeed ALL drivers worked correctly, and ALL were in good condition. So, this means that that my front amp connection is dead..

I am wondering what to do about this, If you guys could send me a new amp or something? The headphones work, the amp deos'nt... what do I do?

Anxiously awaiting a reply.

Thanks

Reply:

Hi,

Have you adjusted the front volume control situated on the headphones lead itself. It comes a default set to CD Stereo with the front speakers turned to zero.

Matt

reply from me:

Hi Matt,

Yes, I have indeed experimented with the volume control on the lead, This is one of the reasons I know all the drivers are working correctly, When I was experimenting VIA RCA connecters I could turn down the volume and turn up the volume on the front speakers, showing that they were indeed working. Yes, I have checked them on DvD and CD, and niether have a front channel when connected to the Amp...

I am Certian the female analog reciever for the amp is dead, my tests have shown that all drivers in the headphones are working correctly. However when plugged into the Amp, all I get is centre's (Sound great) Back right, back left (Sound great) and Sub Woofer (Sounds great) no fronts. Fronts are active when I plug them into oh say.... The rear plugg, No driver work when plugged into the 'front" plugg.

The problem lie's withen the amp, not the headphones. As I said before, Out of the box, Something inside the amp (I would venture to say the sound card) was freely moveing about (you could hear it when you tilted the amp) I dont know if that is commen, But it deos lead me to believe that mabye the connection for the front channel came unsodered on the board.

I dont wish to return the headphones, since they work prefectly, However the Amp is not working properly and I would like to have a amp that works correctly so I can have surround sound.

Thank you for your service thus-far, Awaiting your reply....

reply from him:

Hi

Not a problem, I can get our US support team to send you out a replacement Amp.

Once slight problem though. I cannot find an order in your name. Can you confirm how the headphones were ordered.

Many thanks

Matt
Medusa-USA

Reply from me:

Hi Matt,

Thats understandable, these headphones were a gift from my grandmother. This would have been the name, and address they were ordered too..

:::Grandmothers address::::

I am wondering, If it would be possable for you to send them directly to me, Though it is no problem if you would rather send them to the original purchase address. If you can however send the Amp directly to me, the adress is:

:::My address::::

His reply:

Hi

I have passed your details onto our US support team and they are mailing you out a replacement Amplifier either later today or tomorrow to the following address...

::::My address::::

Please could I ask you to send the faulty unit back to them at this address....

::::address::::

If you let me know how much it costs you to mail it back I will send a payment to your PayPal account to cover it.

Please do accept my sincerest apologies for this problem.

Kindest regards

Matt

My reply:

Hi Matt

Yes, I will gladly send the faulty amp back to your provided address, I will send it out apon recieving the new amp and verifing that it is in working condition. I will let you know when I ship it back.

I would like Thank you for the prompt, curtious emails, and great customer care you have given so far, You have been by far one of the best companies I have had the pleasure to work with. If the replacement amp is properly working, I will gladly be reccomending the headphones and your company to any one..

Many thanks,

That was such a nice experiance lol, I plan on sending the amp back to him for free (that is, if the new amp works properly)

or www.medusa-usa.com

Same place I ordered from.

Dont take them as a gimmick, they sound great, Audio quality is close to rivaling senhiesers.. the bass is the most powerfull I have ever heard on headphones, they damn near can rattle the 'phones right of your head.

and surround sound seems dead on from what I can see, I want to hear everything together though, But Center seems to be right in the front center of you (perfect), Backs are perfect, fronts, I need to hear in comparisen with the backs.

Umm, is that mic removable? I would kinda like a pair of these, but i dont want to have that thing in my face when i am just watching a movie or listenting to music. Also, do i need to use the amp, or will they plug right into a headphone jack? What kind of connectors do they use?

Is this thing OS dependent, or will it work on any audio device? Do you need drivers for them? Do they have mac drivers?

I realize that, and I bet theyre great audio quality.  But, I would rather spend $20 and get close to the same thing.  If I'm not going to be an extremely hardcore gamer or try to record music and really need a good pair, I don't see the point in them.

The mic is on a rotatable boom, Its can be pushed back along the headband when not in use... It is not removable to my knowledge, but it can be placed so that you cant see it. Here are a few examples that I took:

You need to use the amp for surround sound. For regular CD players and the like it comes with a 1/8th sterio jack adapter, When on a CD player it only plays in sterio (Sounds superb)

They dont use any drivers, and are not relient on OS's, they work on DvD player, Cd players, any kinda audio..

If you do decide to get a pair you will need to buy a power converter from radioshack (40 watt reverse power adapter), thats 30$.

So far the headphones have been very worth it for movies, Games, and music. A very good buy.

This review should answer any of your questions:

'Close to the same thing"

I've never seen those regular phones be able to give me surround sound, so I can pin point movements in games, or hear bullets wizzing by me in movies.

Most gamers (not even hardcore gamers) use 5.1 sound systems... I have a 5.1 sound system, but my parents complain about the noise, So these replace the speakers nicly.

Half the price is the Amp, and connections +Shipping any way..

However, I can see your point... If you dont care about any of that.

Just some more stuff he sent me...

I will repost to tell about the amp on thursday..

Me:

Hi Matt,

Sorry for the impatience ;)

I am wondering if I am supposed to get an Email from the US support team, or tracking number or something, Just to confirm that it was shipped.

I have yet to recieve any conformation emails about the shipping of the new amp... Just wondering if I should have, or if it has'nt been shipped yet...

I'm in no rush, just wondering...

His reply:

Hi

Sorry for not advising you. The replacement was sent at 5PM Pacific Standard Time.  It
should arrive with you on Thursday.  It was shipped Via Fedex Ground so it unfortunatly
does not have a tracking number.

Any problems please let me know.

Matt
