Sounds like oil to me. check that it isnt low. Perhaps try changing it. Sometimes when oil gets old it experiences viscosity breakdown sooner and you will get a tick. This should be the first thing you do. Use a synthetic if able. If you still have a tick, then bring it to a mechanic.

I'm no expert, but Sebastian gives good advice.

My buddy bought an '88 Ford Mustang GT (5 liter) off some dude for like $500. It ran well, but the trasmission started slipping....he would try and burn-out but the tranny wouldn't catch first gear until the RPM's got pretty high. Basically, the you gas the car and it doesn't go at all until it catches first gear and it spins tires like crazy because it catches at such a high RPM.

Long story short, my friend thought he needed a new tranny, when my other buddy tells him to check/change the transmission fluid....he does and the car runs like a dream.

Keeping up on your regular maintenence is really all you can do for your car.

One tip: Assuming your car has over 50,000 miles, when you change your oil, look for a product called Engine Restore...it comes in a silver can. There are 4,6, and 8 cylinder formulas, and I think the biggest one is still less than $10.

It's just an oil additive that restores compression in older cars(over 50,000 miles).

I used to drive a 1990 Ford Taurus and putting that little $8 bottle of Restore did more good for my throttle response than anything.
