Hi, I'm new here
and new to paintball. I'm probably gonna get a Tippmann Custom 98. Once
I get into the game, I'll probably get a 16" barrel. I want to know, is
there another gun I should get, and also, any and all tips would be
appreciated.

98 Custom is probably your best choice of gun since your new. And
don't get a barrel over 14 inches, it doesn't help at all, it just
creates friction.

All barrels shoot the same distance, Exceprt for the flatline barrel system. After makrer barrels ar emade to improve accuracy. Stock barrels suck.

Thanks, I'm gonna keep the stock barrel till I save up some $$$, them
I'm gonna buy the flatline, despite it being kinda ugly, but it'll
probably grow on me.

J-J ceramic and Lapco Bigshot would be a good alternative if you dont want to spend all that on a flatline. If you plan on playing speedball dont bother getting the flatline. Like the other guy said, dont go over 14" in length. |

welcome to the forums A 98c would be a great gun for you also i suggest going to a local paintball field and seeing if you like speedball or woods ball so you dont waste money on a barrel or any other up grade that you wont use !! have fun

First off, since you havent played yet, I recommend that you first use that marker stock fer awhile so, you can fully understand on how a paintball marker works. Secondly, the upgrades for it can always wait and also develope some skills when on the field. |

Almost all barrels shoot the same distance. The only difference between a stock barrel and an after market barrel is that the aftermarket one has greater accuracy. Anything over 14"will shoot the same. And it also decreases the velocity a little bit, which decreases the distance of the ball.

You made the right choice in getting the 98c. Are you sure about the 16inch barrel. The 16inch barrel will be no more accurate then the 12inch or 14inch barrel. The 16inch might hinder your game when you run or dive, ect. |

A new barrel is the best up grade to start with. when it come to the lenth there only needs to be 6 to 8 inches to stablize the ball. And When it come to distance that is where the velocity screw comes in. It controls the amount of pressure behind the ball. but when playing on fields it can only be at 300 feet per second.

The flatline is my favorite barrel, but I wouldn't recommend it as a first aftermarket barrel for anybody. It can be hard on paint and requires patience, and sometimes additional aftermarket parts, to make it work right. I tell anyone thinking of getting their first aftermarket barrel to go with a J&J. It provides a good combination of accuracy and quiet shooting and self-cleans if you break paint. It also makes a good back-up barrel on days when your primary barrel is being hard on paint.

Flatlines are very picky about paint it takes a smaller bore size and that means buying expensive paint
