Obesity in children. I blame stupid parents who take their kids to fast food resteraunts(sp) for every meal. Granted some parents are busy with jobs and the like. I could understand someone with a single mother being on the plump side. But other parents just dont care. They know the food is bad yet they take their kids there anyway. My friend's whole family eats fast food once r twice a day. They are really fat. The parents dont even have time consuming jobs. They're bus drivers. They have most of the day off. They're a perfect example of the problem.

It's entirely personal responsibility, and in the case of children still in their parent's care, the parents who are responsible. Nobody makes you go and buy bad foods. Schools have a certain level of nutritional education, but if the parents don't enforce that at home, it's wasted information.
I think there are cases where it's an addiction and somebody really does have a problem with not being able to resist, but they have a responsibility to get help. McDonald's can't make you get help or shut the door on you. Either way, it's on the person. Deranged individuals who kill people are still accountable for their actions and locked up or forced to get help. |

Ah, but taxing junk food would be like taxing cigarettes. I used to work in a convenience store, and the people would come in every day buying smokes. They'd tell me that when it got to such-and-such price, they'd quit. When the price got that high, 9 out of 10 of them were still coming in and setting a new quitting price. People will pay whatever they have to for their vices.

^ Exactly...
If we Tax Junk food to ungodly ammount then people would still buy it but hey... our Deficet is Clear... then After its clear, we could just ban anything with over 1,000 Calories in it. |

They banned alcohol and created powerful organized crime. What would a ban on junk food do? People could die man!

Fast food is the number one reason without a doubt. Little kids chanting " MCDONALDS MCDONALDS" every day around lunch time is a problem. -me |

Exactly. There will be a huge underground market in oatmeal cream pies and ho-hos. There will be speakeasy type establishments with couches and sugar vendor girls all over the country in back rooms and basements.

Hostess and Little Debbie will join forces and move out of the country where they can distribute their goods in plain packaging over the internet and through smugglers. Do you have any idea how much an IV bag of cream filling would go for on the black market?
And yes, the sugar vendor girls will be hot. They'll have to be because sex will still sell, and even the most horribly overweight, government blaming, sugar addict will still prefer to buy from a hot chick. Edited by reifidom |

When your under the age of where you can understand it, I feel it's the parents.
I think once your around 13, you can make a concious choice to go run or exercise. And even mcdonalds has salads. It's kind of getting old hearing the youth blame the elders for their problems. Why don't you say what needs to be said, and say it's my fault. You can't blame everything on your parents once your 18. Edited by tippy_182 |
