I posted this in Upgrades as well but I wanted to reach the greatest audience that might know about this.

I found this quote on the Palmer Stablizer direct, when I looked into getting a reg avoiding using a vert adapter, giving me a closer grip and a unique looking gun.  Under user reviews at county paintball I found:

To answer the most asked question: no, the Palmer Direct Stabilizer will not work by screwing it directly into the Tippmann Model 98/98 Custom CVX valve. I asked Palmer's Pursuit directly and they responded saying, "The CVX valve cannot handle the torque from Stab. It will also void your warranty from Tippmann." So there it is. The Direct Stabilizer will not work directly with the Tippmann valve. (He-he, although some magic with air fittings CAN make it work--so far at least). Hope this helps you Tippy owners out there.

so I'm calling BS on what palmer said.  I have a fairly good understanding of mechanics and pneumatics, but I can't really see how a Stablizer, either in installation or in play, would apply so much torque (torque greater than a steel braided line or a low pressure chamber on the LPK) so that the CVX would break.

Anyone have any firsthand knowledge/a more in depth explanation of why this is so?

And I almost forgot... I'm also calling BS because other reviewers mentioning being able to use them directly on Spyders.. a Spyder can handle something a Tippmann can't?  Come on, I'm not that dumb.

Note: A Spyder works off of the same recommended inlet pressure as a Tippmann (700-800 PSI). So logically anything that a Tippmann can handle pressure wise, a Spyder can also. The valve on a Spyder although a different configuration is just as strong as the valve on a Tippy. I have 2 Tippmanns one w/ the older Pro-Lite valve and one with the CVX valve. I also used to have a loaner Spyder that I sold last fall because I had too many markers. I worked on all of them, and as far as the Spyder goes I had no way on mine to use a direct Palmer reg. It had to be used w/ the vert adapter.

just out of curiosity, what does torque have to do with any of this?

I think they mean the amount of torque to thread and seat the stab into the CVX valve. It might deform, crack or break the plastic CVX valve. Is the Spyder valve plastic also?

what you talkin bout the valve isnt plastic and neither is the thread. just the housing and probably the seals.

I answered this in Upgrades & Customizing... but for all of you here....

You cannot screw an Inline Stab into the valve because the fitting on the
top of the Stab is not long enough to reach the valve. You must do one
of two things to get it to work... you must cut away at the reciever body
inorder to create enough room for the Stabilizer to fit, or use some 1/8"
extensions. Using extensions is very unreliable and dangerous because
sideways force on the bottom of the Stabilizer can snap the fittings.
