I was just watching a show about unmaned autonomous aircraft on the Military Channel.  They were talking about the X-47.  It is a reconosence(sp?) plane made to take off and land on an aircraft carrier.  To test the plane on a normal runway, Northrop Grumman glued a paintball to the tail hook so they could see exactly were it hit.  Basically telling them if they would hit the arresting cables or not.

If they glued a paintball to something, wouldn't the paintball's shell start to get soft and fall off or something?

It's not like a paintball will disintegrate because of a small bit of glue.

Yeah, I saw that too. The guy said they glued a paintball to the thing that catches the line on the aircraft carrier so they could see exactly where it hit. I saw it at like 4:00 this morning though. Cool show.
